Hi, just recently joined in. Im wondering if there are senior out there who can give good suggestions on what papers to take in one sitting which are effective to combine to and are passable when exams are taken.
Ive got exemptions so hopefully in June 2013 is gonna be my first attempt to sit exams. I still need to do F5 onwards. Randomly i have chosen f5, f9 & p1 for June exam mainly because of the exams date. Would this be a good combination?

Hi, I dont feel that i am capable or competant enough to suggest someone but I personally feel that suquence of the papers should not be broken.
Because ACCA body is competant enough who made this sequence for students own good.
I also feel if you broke the sequence you loose the esence of the whole ACCA degree although you qualified.

Like you I had exemptions from F1-4 and start sitting exams last June.
If I remember opentuition did a survey for which papers sit best with each other, might want to have a look (https://opentuition.com/surveys/which-is-the-best-acca-papers-combination/).
I would be wary about sitting more than 2 papers a sitting to start with, they are very demanding and take an awful amount of time (more than you think!!). I would not recommend sitting a P paper until you have finished all the fundamental levels as they are set at a higher level and some of the F paper knowledge maybe required.
do f9, f7 first and then go for any paper and keep f8 for the last. f8 is more comprehensive paper.
this would be my advice for anybody.
f9 though tough , we will learn lot of basic theory it will help in f7 too. f7 is core accounting paper and then u can do f6, f8 more comfortably. f5 involves lot of mathematics. real mathematics. it can be real tough if u r weak in mathematics. if u do that early it is not going to help any other paper. my view is that f9, f7 , f4 first. then do any other paper. f7, f9 is good combination, just my opinion.

MY PERSONAL OBSERVATION IS THAT EVEN IF U GET EXEMPTIONS IT WILL BE APPROPRIATE TO ATTEND LECTURES FOR THOSE PAPERS BECAUSE THERE ARE TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE YOU ARE BUILDING. OTHERWISE YOU WILL FIND SOME DIFFICULTIES WITH SOME OF THE PAPERS GOING FORWARD, REMEMBER ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL COURSES ARE TECHNICALLY DIFFERENT.

I am also of the opinion that you should complete your fundamental papers first, because the knowledge that you obtain from studying at fundamental level will be the backbone to passing your professional papers at a later stage. Take one step at a time, and it’s advised you don’t take certain exam papers because of their suitability in their exam dates. You should flex your timetable, but you don’t need to flex the exams to work your timetable.

I can’t believe no one has said this, but you can’t sit a professional paper before you’ve completed all the fundamental papers, or are currently sitting the remainder.
Exemptions are not always a good thing! Make sure you have a firm grasp of accounting basics that is taught in the knowledge papers; if not, you will find it extremely difficult to pass the higher papers – trust me!
My advice would be to pass the papers in sequence – there’s no point in doing peculiar combinations. Each higher paper may require some knowledge you leart from the lower papers.
I’ve seen so many students fall because:
1) They take on too many papers ie. above two per sitting.
2) Have exemptions even though they don’t have an accounting qualification.
3) Work full-time. (not in accountancy)So beware!
can anyone explain which combination would be best for the professional papers…i have passed till p2…and am thinking for attempting…p3,p4 and p7 in june 2013….would that be good or too hectic??? thankz in advance
