I thought I should just weigh in on the P5 petition, by mostly candidates that have attempted P5 on numerous occasions without success.
I was sympathetic to this petition idea when I kept failing this subject but after I passed on the fourth attempt, I have changed my mind. Firstly as some have already said here, ACCA has 4 options to select 2 so you can’t accuse them of trying to make students fail.
P5 is hard but it is not impossible, a lot has to do with our attitude and approach during the exam. If you self-pity and start imagining there is a conspiracy to make you fail, that already defeats you before you even enter the exam hall. Just over 30% of students who write this paper pass it and that means ACCA will be happy with that essentially. The standard is the 30%.Why should ACCA drop standards to accommodate weak minded students?
I worked damn hard to pass this paper including changing my attitude and I wouldn’t want ACCA to drop any of its standards.ACCA is a respected qualification throughout the world so we need to earn our membership status rather than developing a victim mentality because we refuse to change the way we do things.
This thread may come out as arrogant but maybe that’s what is needed to lift even if it’s one candidate feeling low at the moment.You can do it. Yes the paper is hard but it is by no means impossible. The case studies in the exams are “out of the box” kind of stuff so be open minded as you study. P5 is examined at masters level and so it is not text book stuff but real world scenarios.(by the way,I never once opened a P5 study text,only revision kits-Q&As).Read business articles widely during your study. Don’t go into the exam room thinking you have already failed.

Which sites were you finding business articles on? and which articles does one have to focus on so to get relevant info to help in reading.
Very funny Seagoat ….Perhaps if you take off your anti-arsenal glasses,you may just see my point in there somewhere.
And regarding my passing P5 at the fourth attempt?I learnt more from failling this paper 3 times than I ever learnt from papers I passed first time ie, P4 and P2.
@Clairr :I just read the usual business sites such as Mckinsey,businesstimes,bbc business,bloomberg,CNN money etc ….If you have gone through the P5 syllabus properly, you will be able to pick up relevant articles.Oh and the technical articles on ACCA global are an absolute must!

You took my post too personally. I just wanted to mention a fun fact that I noticed from your post.I got your message plenty of truth is there. As for me I have never understood all this petition fuss whatsover.
Why would you say I’m anti-fan of Arsenal? I’m very neutral about the club really.

I am yet to pass P5 (failed once already) and it is definitely different to all papers in how you need to apply your knowledge.I think it is ridiculous that people want the paper to be easier. I do not want to gain my qualification for it to mean absolutely nothing because ACCA make is easier for people to pass! I did not waste all these years and my hard work for it to mean nothing in the end.
I just hope people can come to the reality that it is hard, and that you need to think completely differently. I found it more a test of your knowledge to think on your feet (as if in a real life situation) as compared to rote learning from a textbook.
Here’s to hoping to pass in June!
