Hi,
I’m not sure if this was asked before but are there any future plans to make Open tuition available as an Apple and/or Android app.
Or is there one already (couldn’t find it on Android Market)
Could be a good feature and money spinner for OT if there was..
Thanks
Chok
May 3, 2011 at 3:11 pm #81409Since OpenTuition is free, most likely App would be free – so not exactly a money spinner haha
and considering it is relatively expensive to produce a useful App
for now, there are no such plans (but of course we have been looking into this for a while)
maybe when the number of students with smart phones is at least 30% of our overall visitors, we will look again into thisMay 5, 2011 at 11:42 am #81410Thanks for the reply. Totally understand need for >30% usership in order to even consider. Worth a try
(p.s. While we all love the free nature OT i do believe users would be more than happy to pay a cursary €3-4 for an app that could provide audio and video lectures to their smartphones. I know I would!)
Cheers

Me too!
March 22, 2015 at 5:04 pm #233681An app would be great. And I would pay if so required.
March 22, 2015 at 10:03 pm #233701You can view the lectures free on smartphones anyway – why do you want an app?

I would pay for the app as well and I’m in Jamaica. It is so much easier to operate through and app than from the Web browser on a mobile device. Opentuition please consider it.
March 8, 2016 at 11:35 pm #304583The app would be useful to access videos easier as web browsers can get messy. Maintaining an app can get expensive and I don’t see there being a problem with charging a fee for the app to cover or by using ads such as other apps (like youtube that make you watch an ad before continuing). Development costs can be free by using volunteers or opentuition members who can build android applications and are wiling to contribute to the community in that way. Perhaps opentuition should runs surveys to find out how many users are interested in an app. As technology gets increasingly mobile, it would be a great resource that we’ll see being used more in the coming years. The nature of the service is free and it saves me a great deal of money so founders might not be inclined to charge a fee but there are other ways to cover overheads. There is even the option of an open donation period such as with khan academy and wikipedia. Please consider it.
March 9, 2016 at 7:22 am #304634We are always considering everything, but we will never charge for anything
Our priority is always to spend money on firstly improving and expanding the content of the website.
March 9, 2016 at 9:27 am #304671I love open tuition. Big thanks to ALL the tutors and support staff for creating and maintaining this website. It is a huge help! Keep up the good work! Oh and I always recommend it to everyone I know that studies accountancy. 🙂
March 9, 2016 at 9:53 am #304682Thank you very much for the comment 🙂
March 9, 2016 at 8:54 pm #304962I knew that you would have reservations regarding fees and donations. I suppose ads are the only other option. But indeed, it is not (as you’ve stated) a priority but that you’ve considered it is enough.
I certainly do appreciate that you update your content for each exam session. Mr. Moffat, your lectures are so great. I’m using them to study for F9 that’s this March ’16 session at the moment. Thank you.

an app would be useful, to download the lectures on my device and watch them even when I will have no internet available, please reconsider. I think that there should be enough people like me who would happily contribute towards the devolopment of a free app, that could also support your operations through online advertisements
