Hi All.
I changed employer about 6 months ago with the promise I would get support with my last professional exams. Ignoring any financial aid (none), I am in a predicament where I have been told I am not allowed to take any leave during BD 1-8 every month, meaning I won’t be able to sit any exams unless I resign. I know the ACCA have remote sessions the week after for mitigating circumstances but these are more if you were ill or if there were connections issues. I have tried to speak to the support team offshore but with little advise or aid in terms of escalating it – is it classed as a mitigating circumstance?
Was wondering if someone has been in a similar situation and can advise someone at ACCA I could perhaps speak with or advise on what I do? I am determined to sit he June sitting. Many thanks
February 21, 2024 at 9:58 am #700783Hello Helena, I have been answering “admin” posts on this forum for more than 5 years and have not seen any similar experience reported. So to your questions …
“mitigating circumstances” is a term used to mean circumstances that “may have affected exam performance” – i.e. PAST tense – so it’s not something that can be claimed in advance of sitting.
Sitting an exam in the week following the published exam week dates is a “post-exam option” that is available only if the eligibility criteria are met – https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/exam-entry-and-administration/about-our-exams/remote-exams/remote-session-exams/post-exam-options.html
I don’t think ACCA would make any exception and allow someone to book for the second week without meeting the eligibility criteria (criteria are there for a reason and any exceptions open “flood gates”).
I can only recommend that you talk to your PER supervisor for support and/or whoever promised you support when you were recruited. You are making a reasonable request for just 1 day off (or perhaps even less) giving adequate notice. If they continue to unreasonably refuse, perhaps you are better off leaving, as it does not make for a promising professional career otherwise.

March 3, 2024 at 10:33 pm #701876Hi I’ve been saying for years acca exams shouldn’t be on the first week of the month as every establishment has month end the first 10 days of the month.
I would ask for your exam leave at a different point in the month, and ask for the day of the exam off. Study at night after work. Manage your revision well and hopefully day off before will be ok.March 4, 2024 at 7:04 am #701886Kaytlinm, welcome to the Opentuition forums.
