There’s only a limit on Strategic Professional exams and it is 7 years.

    Hi,
I really appreciate when other people share their stories, especially when they have twists and turns in them. It helps me to see that life is never a straight line from A to B, most of us go zig zag all.the.time. 🙂

I think you are all really brave and courageous, and should be applauded for not giving up on your dreams and hopes of qualifying. 🙂

I burnt out from my first career at 33 due to overworking and losing people close to me. I took time off, decided to try my hand at something else. I started with AAT and did really well, especially since I was working part-time. I had thought of starting ACCA, but then the world seemed to turn upside down again. I had to leave my home, I lost my employed job twice due to Brexit. My partner and I decided to move to another country. It took time for me to recuperate enough to want to look at ever studying again. But I hated my freelance job so in the beginning of 2019 I started ACCA, hoping to find a place to work that was relevant to my studies. I gave it a year, but at the end of that year I was no closer to finding a job within accountancy. While I tried to keep my motivation up, I just could not. I had not managed to sit an exam, although I booked at least two. I sent hundreds of applications, was in contact with 13 different recruitment firms, but alas, I had had very few, if any, responses. So I gave up.

After spending a year (2020, of all other….) soul-searching etc, I decided that I want to do it. So that’s what I am doing, I have been studying for only a couple of weeks now. But this time I am doing it differently. I know I probably won’t get a job without moving again (we live quite rural and I’m an outsider in this area), but that’s okay. My achievement list no longer starts at the end of my goal list.

My point, even though it is long-winded, is to never ever give up on your dreams and hopes and wishes and wants. But be realistic and manage your expectations, and do give the finger to the expectations of others because it is your life. Take some time to get to know yourself and why you want to do something. Make sure you do things because YOU want to, not someone else. If it is something you want to do, then go and do it. Regardless of what others think.

Really, thanks again for sharing. 🙂
    Kim

I started my ACCA journey in 2014. I am in my late 40’s. I failed F5 ,5 times. Passed on my 6th attempt
So dont give up. I am still continuing even though I fail also. I get up, dust myself off and restart again. So for those of you who think they are too old you are never too old.

I registered as an ACCA student in May 2005, and struggled to pass exams at times, took time out for various reasons and never thought I’d qualify.

2 1/2 years ago I moved jobs to be closer to home, and got fresh motivation to pass my ACCA as I wanted to do it for my career.

Since then I have passed 4 exams straight, sitting every 6 months (skipping June 2020 due to COVD) and am now an ACCA affiliate.

It just shows what renewed enthusiasm and focus can do. I’ve self studied at home and have a (current) 4 year old here too.

Never give up on something you want, if you are finding it tough then it will definitely be worth it in the end.
