Passed with 61!
July 18, 2022 at 11:03 am #661086First attempt self study only, passed with 68%
July 18, 2022 at 11:10 am #661092Hi do not be disheartened! SBL is a very overwhelming paper with a lot to take in. It covers a bit of everything thing. You will pass the next one, I believe in you.
Before exam tips:
-What I did was I used the open tuition notes
-I only did 2 mocks both on the ACCA website for CBT-one untimed and another timed. There’s no point of doing more than this, as you wouldn’t get the same case studies.– Also learn the formats (e.g. report format, briefing notes), it seems silly but do this !!
On the exam day tips:
– Read the requirements first and I put the questions in my work book so I didn’t forget them as I read the exhibits later on.– Plan as I read the requirements, highlight the models to use if you can and allocate timings to each question – 15 minutes for planning
-Read the exhibits and highlight key information (use different highlights for different questions if you can) and I also wrote which exhibits went with what question in the work book as I read. 45 minutes for reading.
– the rest of the time to write and also 15 minutes at the end to read over what I wrote.
If something seems too hard move on and come back later.
Hope these tips help for you next one, all the best.

July 18, 2022 at 11:12 am #66109578%. Studied with BPP and was my 1st attempt. Really shocked to be honest. I thought i had failed!
July 18, 2022 at 11:31 am #661106Passed with 65%!
July 18, 2022 at 12:50 pm #661135It is recommended that you study SBR before AAA as there is some material covered in SBR that is examinable in AAA (such as pensions, and a few other things that I can’t recall) However I passed AAA on my first try in the June sitting and I haven’t done SBR (didn’t realise it was recommended to sit it first until I has already booked the AAA exam!). I just used the Open Tuition notes for the few aspects of SBR that I needed. However, if I was doing it again, I probably would do SBR first, you have to do it any way so you may as well get it out of the way and it will leave you well prepared for AAA.
July 18, 2022 at 1:25 pm #661150passed with 61% self studied and did a whole set of past paper questions in the span of 3 weeks #easymoney
July 18, 2022 at 1:28 pm #661153First attempt managed to get 73% in SBL after over a year without any other exams so definitely felt rusty. My firm was supposed to book me some training courses but didnt manage to book them in time so i used the lectures, flash cards and revision guide here.
To anyone who found it tough, it is a difficult paper as it focusses on the application of models and methods, not the methods themselves. For this paper a key thing is to listen to the examples given and consider the context, not just the details of the actions.

July 18, 2022 at 2:37 pm #661179Hi
Your story sounds really inspiring.. June was my 1st attempt and i failed at 45…I am really disheartened right now but seeing that u scored this well on ur second attempt has really motivated me.. any tips for a SBL resitter?July 18, 2022 at 2:37 pm #661180No special tips. At least none that never been said before. But I did start my study very early i.e. right after Dec 21 paper.
The final month leading to the exams, all I did was practice. At least 3 practice under exam condition each. And in total about 6 past/practice papers each subject.
Really just spent a lot of time trying to understand the best way to score the most marks. I did this while working full time. Lots of time sacrifice. But it’s all worth it. All the best!
July 18, 2022 at 2:55 pm #661188This is very helpful ..thanks a lot.
July 18, 2022 at 3:03 pm #661189The advise is to do a lot of question practice….especially get acquainted with the exam questions/mock exams…..use the exhibits as much as possible in answering the questions and the topics you are familiar with in the exam..try to maximise on those. I hadnt studied a few topics and honestly just maximised on the few that I knew well as I was aiming for just a pass.
July 18, 2022 at 11:54 pm #661235I passed today after my 5th attempt! I got 49 on my 3rd attempt!
I am thinking of everyone who didn’t get the result they wanted today – keep going, you’ll get there! Persistence ?
For me, I had to work hard on my exam technique. Discipline with time and loads of question practice was key for the final success!

July 19, 2022 at 11:30 am #661291I passed (71 marks);
Did not expect actually – the exam was not too difficult, but it was quite tiringJuly 20, 2022 at 7:15 am #661374Failed at 48%- 2nd attempt 🙁
1st attempt I had 43% and now 48% even though I have completed my full paper and was very confident that I can pass this time but I do not understand the main reason behind this.
If anyone can help me to understand the basic reason.
Thank you in advance.
July 20, 2022 at 10:46 am #661414Very inspiring. Can you please mention your detailed approach and strategy to have scored this well.

Thanks in advance 🙂July 20, 2022 at 10:52 am #661416Passed with 62%. Was a final exam for me, finally qualified! Thank you Opentuition, couldnt have done it without your lectures!
July 20, 2022 at 1:58 pm #661435I recommend watching Hasan Dossani on Youtube. Many free webinars available! I just watched most of them, followed his instructions on doing past exam papers. Didn’t read Kaplan books or exam kit questions and passed first time 61%. Good luck!
July 21, 2022 at 11:37 am #661519Got 73 marks in SBL

This comment is based on my experience. I wrote AAA this June and SBR in Sep ’21. Yes, there is a long gap. But a revision of SBR helped me refresh my memory of my knowledge on the accounting standards. I wish I had taken AAA sooner though.
AAA has questions that require to analyze whether the management used the accounting standards appropriately or not and will also ask you for the correct accounting treatment.
So, I would advise you to take SBR before AAA, as it would make studying for AAA much easier.
I have not attempted the APM paper yet. So I am not the right person to give tips on that.July 21, 2022 at 2:30 pm #66155761%
