    Hi sir,

Could you please explain to me, if we are going to implement a successful JIT system, will there be a saving in TOTAL machine set up time. If not why?

Hi – well it depends on the company and the processes involved but generally total setup time & costs should reduce under JIT.
This is because JIT when accompanied by culture of continuous improvement will be looking to reduce all inefficiencies and make changes such as reducing the number of set ups or set up time per batch through effective redesign of processes or training of staff.
    Hope that explains ok
    Many Thanks

Appreciate your reply, sir. But can’t we argue that the JIT system will result in smaller batches (i.e more setups) and therefore higher setup time overall. Even though it reduces the individual setup time per batch.

    Thanks.

yes indeed you could argue that… makes sense & is plausible – however, if it is an area which can be argued either way then its not a good topic for the P1 objective test exam – so no need to worry too much really.
