Can you tell me if the Texas Instruments BA II Plus financial calculator is allowed in the F9 exam? From what I can tell it can’t store text and would make certain MCQ calculations a lot quicker.

    Thanks in advance

You can use any calculator provided that it can not display any text – it must only be able to display numbers.

Can I use the BA II plus to calculate NPV without showing the discount factor? The BA II plus can also calculate IRR, so can I show IRR result without interpolating?

In section C the marks are for the workings and not for the final answer. So just writing down an answer from your calculator will lose you most of the marks.

In Sections A and B the questions are very clever and it is rare that you would be able to answer them directly using just a financial calculator. Also remember that your calculator must not display any text – only numbers, and that 50% of the exam does not involve calculations at all.

It is a scientific calculator that you need (because of, for example, calculating nth roots).
