FAILED RAP ON 3RD ATTEMPT, ANY OPTIONS?/
March 23, 2016 at 10:38 am #307938Hi Opentution, below is the markers comment, i do not agree with him/her but its the 3rd time. I appealed a similar decision upon the second attempt but to no avail. If i send you my rap, you will see for yourself tha the markers comments are not true for e.g where he said i did not state increase, i actually did but used the words growth….. its very annoying
i will apreciate if you can assist me with what my options are after 3rd fail?
Reasons for fail and advice for improvement:
You have put in a great deal of effort updating this RAP however there are still weaknesses with the analysis. For the GPM there was an increase in LC’s GPM in 2014 but you did not actually say this was the case. You wrote about consumer spending, you went on to say “the entity appears to have conducted it affairs better than prior years in terms of costs management” – but again do not give any specific analysis. In your last sentence on GPM on page 18 you talk about the naira being devalued – this would actually reduce the GPM if imported raw materials are increased. The Comparator DC had significantly better margins for GPM, Operating profit and NPM but you did not analyse why these two companies operating in the same industry would have such widely differing ratios. What is DC doing differently to LC? Lafarge’s Payables and Receivables had also changed significantly in 2014 but you did not analyse this effectively. Generally your ratio analysis did not provide the level of analysis required, and you left readers with more questions than answers.March 23, 2016 at 7:29 pm #308012@Koolp
Unfortunately, OBU allows only 3 attempts for passing RAP.

I disagree with my marker comments.
1. for example : my debt to equity ratio analysis, he/she me expects me to explain where the money come from and why they don’t the company reinvest?
in my defense, it is an explanation why the gearing move from x to y, i have approximately 400 words for each ratio, i can be telling everything grandmother stories. i choose a critical item in that ratio and explain how it impact the ratio movement
2. he/she said “i tend to take paragraphs from study text p1 – p3” which is nonsense unless i’m explaining what is porter 5 forces, which i have too. if i “tend to take paragraphs from textbooks” so flag me for plagiarism than.
3. I also have key industry ratios, i show how foreign exchange movement impact the revenue by quarter trend, how the company consolidate the share and cause the EPS to spike up, apparently it carries no value and i deserve a fail
i don’t know man, as a finance analyst, if my boss ask me to explain how the gearing move from 40% to 10% and said “hey boss, the money comes from your sales n you should invest here, i’m so going to loose my job.” … seriously?
im one paper away from passing my ACCA, after my ACCA, im taking CFA. No thanks OBU is not for me.
March 23, 2016 at 9:25 pm #308026koolp, just focus on ACCA, trust me employer values that more.

Don’t get dis-heart, everything happen in your life is for your benefit, may be there is something better that is already decided for you that you don’t know. In coming year, OBU is launching MSc in Applied Accounting, you can opt it and work hard for achieving MSc which is surely more valuable then BSc.

Any idea on the requirements to enrol for the Msc in Applied Accounting to be launched next year by OBU?
April 8, 2016 at 11:15 am #309301Yes, it will be launched next year and requirements are expected that you should be ACCA Affiliate. Other requirements will be similar to BSc Hons.
