Who usually uses DSS
Is it strategic, tactical or operational managers?
Probably not operational at decisions there are too cut and dried.
Both strategic and tactical can use DSS. The example I usually give is of a financial model on a spreadsheet eg to produce cash flows. There is no right answer as cash balances depend on input assumptions and decisions. However, you can experiment with different scenarios and see the resultant cash flows, then choose what you feel happy with eg dividends paid, capital expenditure, closing a department and subcontracting. Similarly, in another application, different scenarios could be run comparing employing additional staff or paying for lots of overtime.
The system doesn’t make the decisions but it helps managers at both tactical and strategic levels to do so.
