Hi John,
I attempted a question to find the correlation co-efficient. I set out a table with x, y x squared etc. As I completed the equation I got 1 so was confident all was correct. When I checked the answer I had mixed up the variables (i.e I used “x” values to calculate y and vice versa) BUT I still got the same answer?
Does this sound right? you have taught me y depends on x but does this mean it doesn’t actually matter which set of values you use for y and x? Or is this just a really random coincidence,
Thanks in advance,
Daniel.

It matters for the regression equation when you are forecasting, but for the coefficient it is because you are simply seeing how well the two variables ‘fit together’.

PS – I would like to say how helpful your resources have been. I have actually paid for resources/support from a long distance learning centre that I won’t name but their resources just don’t compare so a big thank you! 🙂
Daniel.
