what amount a company states its investment in other companies? Either its cost i.e. historical cost or fair value?

I think its cost of investment plus any post acq share of profits

No, it’s cost. In the parent’s own financial statements, it’s cost – unless it’s at fair value because the investment is now classed as held for sale
