Hi All!
I hope everyone is doing well.
Actually I plan to give one paper in December for sure but I may postpone the other one in March sitting.
So I needed some guidance regarding F7 and F8. And would be appreciated if anyone could provide me with it.
Along with that i wanted to know some things regarding the two.
1- It’s like out of F8 and F7 which one is more about calculation and which one is more of theory?
2-Of the two, which one needs more learning to do? Like which one has a lot of content matter to learn and memorise?
3- Which one needs more time to prepare for?
4-And finally which is less hard than the other ( I have deliberately not used the word easy)I know opinions will vary for some of the above questions but this is not an issue and I am interested in hearing them as this will surely help me. I would really appreciate it if you could provide me with some tips on handling these subjects too.
Let me tell you… I am not much of a ‘theory-oriented’ person and needs time to develop concepts in my head….but i do want to make sure i score really well in both of them.
Many thanks in advance!
July 20, 2018 at 2:08 pm #464049I advise you to look at the published ACCA Syllabus and Study and read the section “Approach to examining” alongside a quick look at the Specimen exams. It should be immediately apparent to you that AA(F8) is almost wholly “written” and FR(F7) a mixture of computational and “written” questions.
The pass rates for F7 have hovered around 48-49% over the last 5 exam sessions whereas F8 is around 40%.
July 20, 2018 at 3:01 pm #464054Hello,
From a students perspective I may be able to help, but obviously this is just my take on things.
1. F7 has definitely more calculus and some written elements too. F8 I would say is all written apart from one calculation on materially if I remember correctly.
2 & 3. For me it took longer to learn F7, but I find the theory stuff a little easier. I also think the F7 content is a little bit more than F8.
4. I found F8 easier to learn, but the pass rates speak for themselves in this paper. I personally would say a lot of it was about exam technique, but for me as long as I stuck to saying in the exam what the problem was, WHY the problem occurred and what effect it had on the accounts I was part way there.
As usual both papers are extremely time pressured, but F8 even more so as there is usually lots to write.
Hope that helps and good luck with you studies.
