The answer might depend on your current role.I am unsure of CIMA's current policy regarding when experience can be obtained.I am with ACCA which allows experience before, during and after obtaining qualification to count towards gaining membership as long as properly recorded.CIMA seems to require some technical financial/accounting experience as well as exam passes to gain membership. I suggest you look at following link for more information- https://www.cimaglobal.com/Studying/Becoming-a-cgma/Practical-experience-requirements/Updated-requirements/CGMA-Competency-Framework/ Hope above helps.
