Hi, I notice the Johnson Scholes and Whittington of Portfolio management was discussed extensively in the lecture of Chapter 16. Some students raised the qeestion before whether they are in the syllabus and why it is not mentioned on the lecture notes, but the tutor responded by saying that the notes and lectures are complimentary.

I had a look on the SBL syllabus but I cannot find evidence that Johnson Scholes and Whittington model of portfolio management is included. Can I confirm that we can skip this part please? Thanks.

You can’t be specifically asked about this model. We were in two minds as to whether to retain it in the lectures. However, in the syllabus guide, section C5a a says:

    5. Strategic choices
    a) Assess and advise on the different strategic options available to an organisation.[3]

On balance, we thought the JSW portfolio management approach might be of some use there. How a company manages its subsidiaries is obviously important. Similarly, the next section of the Chapter 16 lectures on Ashridge portfolio display.

If you are short of time, I think you can omit these.
