The finance director of Smoke Co is an ACCA member. He has been asked to pay a bribe to secure a contract in a country in which bribery is commonplace
Which of the following statements is correct?
The bribe should be paid because it is in the interests of the company
The bribe is unacceptable because it distorts business efficiency
The bribe is acceptable because it is normal business practice in the country
I would think the right answer is B. A and C are wrong.
The use of the term “business efficiency” might be difficult. Here, it really means economic efficiency meaning that contracts are placed with the most suitable companies not those who pay bribes.
can’t C be the answer as the place is common for bribery
So how would that reconcile with the ACCA’s Fundamental Ethical Concepts, which include integrity and objectivity?
moral
