    Hi Tutor,

Answer to Q38 in BPP Practice Kit is very confusing. Professional mark in this question is for commercial acumen.

The answer talks about smell and water pollution, importance of explaining business model to the society, why fumes are generated, etc in regard to identify reasons and benefits for Pulpo with environmental reporting. However, there is no any single info about those points in the case. I understand that for commercial acumen, we can bring expertise from our knowledge of previous acca papers. The points raised like these are common sense and relevant for corporate citizenship, however, they are not reflected in the case. So, is it correct to fabricate points which are not directly or indirectly mentioned in the case in order to answer the question in SBL exam?

    Many thanks.

You are correct. There is no mention or hint about smell, water pollution or fumes in the question and that part of the answer is inappropriate.

I think, to make your point, you would have been ok to say something like. “If the company can explain why certain emissions, such as dust, are created and say what measure they are taking to reduce the nuisance, then criticism of the company might be more muted”. ie you could make up a simple illustrative example.

What I think has happened is that this question was adapted from an old P1 question, but the editing down didn’t go well.
