Beyond budgeting

Hi, Could you briefly explain the principle of beyond budgeting? I have watched the videos, and looked at the notes but can't get my head around what it exactly is.

It is not a technique, it is simply the proposition that preparing budgets does not really achieve anything and wastes time and money, and that companies should measure performance in other ways - not simply comparing with a budget as most companies do at the moment.
