Appeals from Magistrate's Court

MMuhammadullah2d ago

Liam was convicted of a criminal offence by a Magistrates' Court. If Liam has grounds to appeal, which court will the case move to next?

 Crown Court

 High Court

 Court of Appeal

 Supreme Court

What is the answer to this question plz?

My answer is Crown Court but the answer in the BPP book is High Court.

Who is right ?

Hi Muhammadullah

The good news is ... I agree with you!

The Crown Court hears appeals for criminal sentences from the Magistrates Court.

If there are further grounds for appeal, that is when it would move to the High Court.

And again, if there are grounds for appeal, next step would be Court of Appeal

And then!!! The Supreme Court

OK?

Alright.

Tnx Sir.

But why does The BPP Answer Key says High Court is the answer.

I also am confused cause it could be made to both actually on the point of fact to the Crown Court and on the point of law to the High Court.

The question does not mention appeal on the point of what??

I don't know how you expect me to answer on behalf of BPP. They are normally very good and reliable. Just maybe this question has been adapted from an earlier question and, just maybe, that earlier question had mentioned Liam appealing on a point of law.

Just maybe!

OK?
