Hi, i wanted to know about practising questions.
Do we just solve the past examination questions or all of the questions included in the revision kit? Also, by solving past examination questions, do we solve from papers from 2007 and over or do we also have to solve past exam questions before 2007??March 4, 2012 at 1:32 pm #95101Hi
If you are limited in terms of time or motivation, I think I have to recommend past exam questions. From 2007.
If you are limited by neither time nor motivation, do them all! Why would you not? You are within, probably, 12 months of qualifying as an ACCA. Is that not motivation enough for you to start practicing straight away, and with no limitation? Do as many of the past exam questions as you can, as many times as you can, until you are thinking automatically about what elements you should be bringing into your answer.
Your post asks about “other” questions – presumably the publishers’ own examples. Certainly in the BPP revision kit I am aware of only 4 or 5 of such questions – reconstructions ( only recently brought into the syllabus and therefore no past questions available ) and one or two waffly question. For sure, do the reconstruction questions. The waffly ones? I personally find that one cannot beat a good waffle, so I would do those as well.
Basically, do as many as you can, as many times as you can.
Just pass these exams and get out of my life!
:))))
March 5, 2012 at 11:32 am #95102Thank You very much.
I wanted to also ask, has the syllabus changed at all from 2 sittings ago? As I am re-sitting the exam, I had solved all the questions and I got a 45 and I dont know where I had gone wrong as i thought that i had past the examination. I dont know what to focus on more. please help! I want to pass the examination this time.March 5, 2012 at 5:50 pm #95103When you say that you “solved all the questions” can I hope that you did this “honestly” ie you didn’t just have a quick check to see if you were going in the right direction.
Obviously, it will have been 18 months since you last did the P2 exam, so you’ll need to get through all these questions again. Have you got / are you going to get an up-to-date revision kit? If not, you will need to download from the ACCA website the P2 exams from 2011 and probably also from 2010.
Changes to the syllabus mainly involve the recent IFRSs. Where are you up to? The most recent in the P2 syllabus is IFRS13 so you’ll need to get up to speed with any new issue since your last exam attempt.
There’s a lot of work ahead of you and not many days – just over 100!
START TOMORROW! Tuesday 6th March an hour and a half revision. Wednesday, attempt a 50 marker in exam conditions. Thursday do the same question again, again under exam conditions – but this time, really under exam conditions – no peeping at the answer!
Keep going like that – try to attempt 50 marks worth of questions each evening with maybe 100 marks worth on Saturday and another 100 on Sunday.
You need to get yourself into the position where, no matter what Graham Holt throws at you, you are supremely confident that you can score at least half marks. ideally, you’ll be looking at over 75%!
When you’re planning your revision, be sure to build in some relaxation time. Be realistic. Don’t overface yourself such that your schedule is unrealistic before you even start!
And join in the study sessions on OT ( if there are any ). If there aren’t any, think about starting a study group 🙂
March 6, 2012 at 11:32 am #95104I had solved all the group questions in the revision kit very well. I also solved the IAS’s but some not all just about 5-6 of the IAS questions i found a little difficult so i was going back and fourth to my notes.
I am taking P2 INT version, i have the revision kit for 2011 do i need the 2012 one?
I have started solving IAS questions and i am currently reading through the IAS’s im almost done with the IAS’s and im going to start groups in the next 2 weeks (maximum). Am i on the right track for studying?March 6, 2012 at 12:01 pm #95106hi
that sounds to be perfect. I doubt that you need a 2012 revision kit, but make sure that you download the December 2010 and both 2011 exams from the ACCA website, and keep up to date with the technical articles
