General ACCAAfternoon slump while studying - help needed

HHassan9y ago
Hi, Currently, days are longer and nights are shorter. Which means the night starts at 7 PM and before that, it is the best time to study after coming from the work by 3-4PM. But the problem is that I feel sleepy and many time falls asleep while reading, despite 7 hours sleep a day. However, night time I am fully active, probably because of being busy with the regular life work e.g. family stuff. But I cannot give night time for study due to the noisy and disturbing environment at that time. I really need some tips or remedy to keep me awake in the afternoon so I can study. Thanks. Hassan

You fall asleep while "reading", that's the issue there! Mix your study time with a reading and a solving time. May I know what papers are you attempting? If it's a numerical one then you simply have to involve a pen and a paper in your work and even if it's a theory one don't just sit back and read the long and boring texts! Read it, and write pointers in your own words on a register. This way, your mind does not have to go through the repetitive process of reading boring text but actively participates in processing the summarized pointers that you will note down which will in turn also help you with your revision. Hope that helped :)

Hi Hassan, You mentioned that you get 7 hours of sleep each day, maybe try 7.5 or 8 hours and see if it makes a difference? Also, although it is tough whilst studying, but getting some exercise and fresh fruit veg usually helps me a lot. I feel a lot more sluggish if I am eating too much junk food/not exercising. I would also recommend to try and make a study plan so you know what you need to do each day/week/month etc This usually helps me as I know what I need to do and when by which is a great motivator in itself. I hope the above helps, if you need any more help please do let me know.

Hi Rafay, I am studying P1 and P3, both are extremely theoretical. And taking notes strategy doesn't work for me. Yes, reading long notes are very boring but If I start to understand it, then out of curiosity I don't feel sleepy and enjoy reading it. Unfortunately not all the topics are interesting enough to keep you entertained.

Hi Mash, You will be surprised to know that yesterday I slept 8 hours and still it is the same issue. A study plan is the first thing I do, I agree it is important. Eating fruits is a distraction for me, I tried it once, but 100% you will not feel sleepy. Exercise seems to be a great idea. I will try to somehow arrange it, also it will help to lose some wait :) Thanks, Mash and Rafay for your comments. If anyone else had any experience, please share.

Christ, you just need to grow a pair!!! Everyone is in the same boat! Drink some red bull or have some coffees, like everyone else.
