Sir,for PYQ Sep/Dec 2015 Q4(a)
“Offering service for free as part of promotion is not prohibited…”
In this paragraph stated that “this may also devalue the services offered….as they may be perceived as being a promotional tool as opposed to professional services”
Is it not usually for offering service for free is a promotional tool in a business world? Is it mean that the free service offered may not be appropriate for the advice given in the free consultant?
My apologies – I missed this one earlier. I don’t have the Q/A to hand but imagine this – if a firm of professional accountants offered “buy a tax/valuation service and get an annual audit for free!!!” – what does that “say” about the value of an audit? It looks “cheap” – it is trivialised as a promotion – it is devalued. So when talking about marketing/advertising/promotion a practitioner/audit firm must take care when making “free” offers.
