    Hi guys,

I hope your revision is going well!

I have only sat P2 so far (due to exemptions from the F level exams) and was wondering if someone could provide me with some guidance regarding the technical articles. Would you recommend reading all of the articles that have been published on the ACCA website, or just the ones with more recent publish/modification dates at the bottom of the pages?

I read each and every one for the P2 exam that I sat last December and I think it was only the FV article (which was the most recently published) that came up. Is there a general ‘rule of thumb’ as to which ones to pay attention to, or is it a case of any topic covered in an article can come up?

Sorry if this seems obvious, it’s just that I don’t want to allocate my time to unnecessary reading, when I could be doing additional question practice.

    Thank you in advance,

    Paul

The articles are especially important in theory and ‘wordy’ papers.

I would read as many as I possibly can as the examiner likes to catch people who don’t read them out.

Take June 2015. Q4 was a bloodbath because it was linked to technical articles up on the site, articles 90% or more of students likely didn’t bother studying, many students avoided the question like a plague. Knowledge Management article for example. You won’t see that mentioned in textbooks (least I haven’t) but it’s up there and explained in the articles. The articles are key additions to what you study in your texts and what you practice in your kit and that’s why they are often reference and you are often advised to read a article from ACCA in the textbooks when going through a chapter.

But there are more recent examples. In March (based on what others have said) it seems the article on value chains and SCM was examined.

The examiner regularly gives out about students not using the resources on the website in his or her examiners reports.

So for P3 they are very important indeed.

As mentioned in my other thread, you should read all the technical articles. Especially the particular article listing out the key models frequently examined. I find that the frequently examined syllabus area are basically covered by the technical articles topics, which are a great guidance and quick way to cover the key areas of the syllabus.

Just from my experience on P2, they got a question about financial instruments on Part B, which are heavily linked to the technical article. I am glad that i read the article and I am sure I got a lot of marks from that question to achieve a solis pass. Even on my revision in p3 now I study the technical articles at work to save some time, the articles can provide a quick summary with easy understanding words . So I think it is better to read them if you have time. 🙂
