Hi; I hope you’re well, a quick question regarding the ACCA SBL exam March 20024:
Can I dive straight into revision rather than spending time on the text book?
Thank you

If you mean starting question practice without studying any sort of text, I’m not sure that’s a good idea. However, I don’t think you need to read a BPP or Kaplan text book. This is primarily an exam requiring application not knowledge and the commercial text books can induce you to spend too long learning and not enough time doing questions and solving problems. However, although common sense can take you a long way in this exam, there is a body of knowledge required eg models that help you to analyse situations and you would be expected to demonstrate this in the exam. To jump into questions before any study might lead to simplistic answers, not based on any theory whatsoever. In addition, when you read the model answers you might be puzzled by some of the references.
I suggest you study our notes and perhaps listen to the lectures. The notes are succinct and cover the most important elements of theory. Then attempt questions and analyse your answer (or answer plan) and compare it to the model answer. If you cannot understand something in a model answer then that’s the time to go back to our notes or a commercial textbook.
