What is the ICAEW

WHAT IS THE ICAEW AND THE ACA QUALIFICATION?

ICAEW stands for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales a leading international accountancy body. The ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification, the ACA, is one of the most advanced learning and professional development programmes available .

BENEFITS OF OBTAINING THE ACA QUALIFICATION

The ACA qualification is valued around the world in business, practice and the public sector. Qualified ACA’s generally receive high salaries.

Here are just a few reasons why you should consider ICAEW

  • ICAEW members are leaders in their fields, whether working in accountancy practice, in business, in public services or as entrepreneurs
  • ICAEW offers top quality continuing professional development to help you get and stay ahead of your peers
  • ICAEW worldwide networks offers unparalleled opportunities for professional networking and career and business development no matter where you are in the world

STUDYING FOR THE ACA QUALIFICATION

The ACA programme is available in Bangladesh, China, Cyprus, Greece, Middle East, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom.

In order to become an ACA it is necessary to pass 15 examinations (although if you have an accountancy or business related degree from university you are likely to be exempt from some of the examinations).

Although you are allowed to take the examinations (except for the final case study) as an independent student, you will only get the qualification after you have completed a training agreement with an ACA employer for between 3 and 5 years.

You can study in any way you like – you can attend courses, or choose distance learning.

At present OpenTuition does not have free study materials for the ACA qualification. However, many of the syllabus topics are the same as for the ACCA qualification – you can access free lectures and study materials for the ACCA qualification on opentuition.com

HOW TO REGISTER AS A STUDENT WITH THE ACA

You must register with the ICAEW before starting to take the examinations.

This can be done on-line on the ICAEW’s website ( www.icaew.com )

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The compulsory costs are those payable to the ICAEW. There is a registration fee of (currently) GBP 165. The cost of taking the examinations varies from (currently) GBP 65 for the earlier exams up to GBP 255 for the final examination which is a case study.

These costs do not include the cost of studying for the exams. This depends on how you choose to study. It is common, but not compulsory, for ACA employers to cover the costs.
