Pls Admin i have problems viewing the lecture, each time i try to open it will open and show but a different courses with two option saying repeat and share. I need advice to be able to open the lecture. mc_asilah23@yahoo.com
I have been a little surprised by some of the revision kits and how little they address new or enhanced areas in the syllabus. Recent articles in SA magazine will certainly help you with the theory:
Business strategy and pricing (Feb 2011) Business forecasting and strategy (Jan 2011) Project management (Oct 2009)
I believe another article on Project management should appear shortly.
It’s very important to look at the examiner’s article ‘Business analysis – changes to the syllabus from June 2011’ (Aug 2010) and the new, current pilot paper.
That still leaves you with few practice questions and OpenTuition hopes to publish some questions and answers (not necessarily full 25 mark questions) that will provide you with some practice.
I went through the P5 past papers and a number of questions appear to be relevant. Yet the depth, width and style are somewhat different from what we know with regards to P3 past papers. So it might be risky to base the revision on relevant P5 past papers in respect of the ‘new’ P3 areas.
Your guidance above is very much appreciated and I am going to share it with my study colleagues.
great work by opentuition…notes of p1 helped me alot in dec 2010 lecture of p1 is very good and explanations were also in lecture and also the way of reading the notes is very impressive BUT now i am listening p3 lecture he is just reading the notes no explanation very flat reading no expressions in the reading……i request to please add some explanation in the lecture……..
Thanks Open Tuition for the great resources you provide! I would have been lost the last 2 and a half years only for your lectures, slides and tips! Sitting my final 2 this sitting so hopefully all will go to plan!
I don’t think that’s right. But I am happy to look at evidence for your view. Here’s a summary from a book of theirs, “Exploring Strategic Change”, Julia Balogun, Veronica Hope Hailey
The authors present a useful and applicable framework to tackle major change projects. The basis of their framework is the “Change Kaleidoscope”, a tool that considers essential design choices for change projects while taking into account the organisational context. In the end, the tool can help you to get a balanced view the change from all major perspectives and to decide about the best way to go forward.
The Design choices are: • Time • Scope • Preservation (what do you want to keep?) • Diversity • Capability • Capacity • Readiness • Power
The do not only help to determine the best design for the change project but also indicate its prospects for success. The design choices to make are: • Change path (e.g. evolution vs. revolution) • Start point (top, bottom,…) • Change style (e.g participation, direction,…) • Change target (e.g.: behaviours, values,…) • Change levers (which interventions can be used to bring change about?) • Roles (who are the major change agents?)
Our slide suggests that change style involves deciding whether we are going to be dictatorial or participative, and that change interventions or levers relate to communication, team building and cultural interventions. That seems in line with their book.
The slide does not show as clear as what you said above. “…….Change style: which management style should be adopted? Change interventions: education, communication, cultural interventions……”
Furthermore, section 2.6 of the book “Exploring Stragetic Change” – 3rd edition – on Change Levers actually goes into details discussing the cultural web.
Section 14.4 of our textbook “Exploring Corporate Strategy” – 8th edition says “Some of the levers for change have already been discussed in Chapter 11 in relatin to the effects of changes in structures and control systems of organisations. Here other possible change levers are discussed. In so doing it is worth noting that many of these correspond to the elements of the cultural web.”

How can we practice the new areas in P3 from papers? Revision kits do not appear to include enough of the new areas. Thank you.

yongquan says
The slide on Balogun and Hailey’s change implementation choice contains errors.
It’s change styles that refer to education, participate, direction and coerion and not change intervention.
Change intervention or change levers actually refer to the inter-related elements of the cultural web.
