    Happy new year Prof Mike Little,

    I want to write a RAP for OBU. I want to analyse the business and financial performance of a bank. By the nature of the business banking, their Statements of Financial Position are not like that of other businesses.
    How does one go about it? The ratios used for banks seem to be different.. Will OBU accept it?

      Hi Osaid

      Only chapter 8, lecture 3 is going to change – I’m planning to do a re-recording today. Any IAS / IFRS not yet covered by lectures are (in my view) easily covered by students without the need for audio / video lectures.

      Be fair – we have to leave you with at least some work to do on your own

        Hi Tyler

        Well spotted! When I checked the lecture to see what needed to be re-recorded, I see that the “second half” oh the lecture concerned dividends an I believe that topic is adequately covered in other lectures.

        Don’t worry, you’re not missing anything!

      Hi, no, there isn’t. I cover all you (likely) need for F7 when I look at preparation of financial statements but, unfortunately, that tends to be on the revision course which is largely unrecorded.

      Maybe, if I remember this next season, I’ll record the bit on revision course this time

    Hi,
    Apologies if I have totally missed it, but is there somewhere that I can find comprensive proformas that contain all possible inclusions for consolidated accounts i.e consolidated SoFP, SoCI etc? I understand the workings of how to get to the numbers, but I confuse myself over where they should be placed on the relevant proformas. I have googled, but I cant seem to find one layout for each of the conolidated financial statements that includes everything, regardless of whether it appears in the question or not.
    Thank you.

      @shams83, Well, as explained in the recording at the start of chapter 6, I’ve left the first 5 chapters for you to do. Although not recorded anywhere, the intention is that you should also do chapters 20 – 22 yourselves

        @MikeLittle, Hi

        Yes, 33 IS eps. I thought there was an eps lecture already uploaded 馃檨

        However, if you check on the P2 pages, you’ll find there are 5 separate lectures on there about eps. They’re probably a bit too heavy for F7 but you should get the drift ok

    Respected sir.
    rectify the following error by making journal entries.

    1:the account of a receivable for $12000/ had been written off as bad, but the entry had been made only in the personal account.

    2:the sale book was under cast by $ 50 ,$175 , $ 75 respectively on consecutive three page .

    3:Goods returned by A $300/ have been entered in the returned out wards book . however A account has been correctly posted.
    thanks

    Hi Mike,
    Can you answer a question on the calculation of goodwill when preparing consolidation accounts that include an associate. Why in question 5 in the practice questions is the goodwill calculated for the associate and included in the calculation of retained earnings but in the exam paper for June 2010 and Dec 2011 it isn’t?
    Thanks
    Chris

      @gerberer2, Hi chris

      that sounds like an oversight n my part – thanks for pointing it out. We n longer calculate “goodwill” on the acquisition of an Associate. We used to in order to be able to prepare W5A Investment in Associate ( I’ll not tell you the way we calculated that figure, because I do it in a revised more in line with the Examiner’s expectations )

      It’s no longer called “Goodwill” – it’s now a premium on acquisition and the ( former ) Goodwill is no longer impaired. Instead, the value of the “Investment in Associate” is impaired.

      Sorry about the inconsistency but the recorded lectures of the past exam questions is the way to follow.

      @celinemoguem, As the UK catch up with the rest of Europe, there are fewer and fewer differences between the two variants.. Check out the last few exams and compare International with the UK.

      I believe you’ll find few differences.
