If you are intending to take ACCA exams, please read ACCA exam rules below
- You are required to comply in all respects with any instructions issued by the registrar, exam supervisor, and invigilators before and during an exam.
- You may not attempt to deceive the registrar or the exam supervisor by giving false or misleading information.
- You are not allowed to take to your exam desk, possess, use, or intend to use while at that desk, any books, notes or other materials except those authorised by the registrar. If you are found to have taken to your desk, or possessed while at that desk, unauthorised materials which are relevant to the syllabus being examined, it will be assumed that you intended to use them to gain an unfair advantage in the exam. In any subsequent disciplinary proceedings, it shall be for you to prove that you did not intend to use the materials to gain an unfair advantage in the exam.
- You may not assist, attempt to assist, obtain, or attempt to obtain assistance by improper means from any other person during your exams.
- You are required to adhere at all times to the Instructions to Candidates, which you receive with your Examination Attendance Docket.
- You are required to comply with the exam supervisor’s ruling. Supervisors are obliged to report any cases of irregularity or improper conduct to the registrar. The supervisor is empowered to discontinue your exam if you are suspected of misconduct and to exclude you from the exam hall.
- You may not engage in any other unprofessional conduct designed to assist you in your exam attempt.
- You are not permitted to remove either your script booklet or your question paper from the exam hall. All exam scripts remain the property of ACCA.
- Once the exam has started, you are not allowed to leave the exam hall permanently until the end of the session, and then only when instructed by the supervisor. These regulations are reproduced on your Examination Attendance Docket – you should take time to familiarise yourself with them. In order to be eligible to sit your exams, you must sign your docket confirming your agreement to comply with these regulations.
Important ACCA exam rules
Mobile phones and pagers should be switched off at all times in the exam hall, and are not permitted to be taken to your desk under any circumstances. Mobile phones are not permitted on your desk even if they remain switched off.
Calculators taken into the exam must comply with the regulations stated on your Examination Attendance Docket – ie they should be noiseless, pocket-sized, and they must not have a print-out facility or graphic word display facility in any language.
For security reasons, the exams are held concurrently in five different time zones. Students are therefore not permitted to leave the hall permanently until the end of the exam session. Any student in breach of this regulation will be reported.
In the exam hall
Every effort is made to ensure that you sit your exams in the best conditions. However, if you have a complaint regarding the centre operation, you should make this known to the exam supervisor in the first instance. The supervisor will do everything within their power to resolve the matter to your satisfaction there and then. If the complaint is of a fundamental nature, ACCA will take whatever further remedial action it considers appropriate in the circumstances.
ACCA Exam Rules and Regulations – professional misconduct
ACCA’s disciplinary procedures cover matters such as professional misconduct, misconduct in exams and breaches of regulations which include any actions likely to bring discredit to you, ACCA, or the accountancy profession. The rules governing disciplinary procedures for students (and members) are set out in ACCA’s Bye-laws and Regulations.
All registered students are bound by these Bye-laws and Regulations. Further enquiries about matters which may be subject to disciplinary procedures can be directed to the Professional Conduct Department at our London office in the UK. ACCA’s Rulebook is available for reading online or at ACCA offices.

Hi
I din’t know that we cant leave the examination hall until finished time. In June I’ve seen couple of student leaving in middle of the exam. Therefore today when I finished my exam I asked the supervisor she told me to fill Inappropriate behavior sheet SCRC1 because I wanted to leave early. she also handed me a sheet with list of instructions related to disciplines and behavior. But most of the clauses were about cheating etc.? ?
Also there were no instructions on the instructions list behind exam docket. And it was necessary for me to go for personal purposes.
Does leaving exam hall earliar before time can be considered as inappropriate behavior. What could be the consequences?

Hi Can we use highlighter pens in the exam?

I find the new rule about mobile phones idiotic at best. As I entered the exam room yesterday, the invigilator gave me a small plastic bag (like at the airport…) and told me it was for my phone, it’s a new acca rule, she said.
I thought ok, I ‘ll simply leave my phone inside my bag.
One minute, I repeat, one minute! before the start of the reading time another invigilator asked me why my plastic bag was empty. I explained that i left my phone in my bag. “Ohh no, you have to put your switched off phone inside it and leave it under your desk!!”. “But it’s an old Nokia, not even a smartphone…” “It does not matter! It’s a new rule!”.
So I had to run across the room, find my bag within thousands, grab my phone, put it in the plastic bag and under my desk!! Why?! Does not make sense to me….
John Moffat says
I would guess it is because there have been cases in the past where phones left in bags have been ringing and disturbed everyone.
If it is in a plastic bag with you, then there is no problem for them to discover who it belongs to if a phone starts ringing 🙂
tich2010 says
I think ACCA has to do like CFA where your bags are left somewhere not to be in the same exam room and phones kept in bags not this new rule .
palmy says
Ok, I did not think about phones ringing when left in bags… Makes sense now, thanks.
However, I thought it was understood that phones must be switched-off in the exam room.

The stated on the attendance docket exam start time is 12:00h. Is this the time in my zone? Or I should check it somewhere? I will be sitting F5 in Bulgaria. I was awarded exemption f1-f4 so it is my first exam sitting. Many thanks!
opentuition_team says
if it says 12h on your exam docket then YES it is your time zone 🙂
if you are still unsure contact ACCA

Can anyone tell me which countries fall in which exam time zones. I’ll be sitting the exams in Hong Kong. Which zone will I be in?
lisana says
Not always someone leaves for toilet reasons, sometimes it might be because of health conditions, and I dont think that it is a nonsense to be not in good health condition! Anyway….

when must we sign the exam docket- is it on any date?
gavrilova123 says
Are you permitted to drink/snack during the exam?
MikeLittle says
Yes, but don’t take a full meal / burger and fries / chateaubriand in there and alcohol is not allowed.
Some non-rattling sweets and a bottle of water is acceptable
But are you really saying that you cannot last a full three hours without eating or drinking?
gavrilova123 says
Hi Mike,
Thanks for replying. You are right, I can last three hours without food especially when under pressure. I meant more drinks- water and coffee.
Regards
Mariyana
MikeLittle says
Water in a bottle – fine
Coffee? Probably not

Hi,
How do I go about laying a complaint about an exam invigilator who, started the exam, and in the middle of our 15 minute reading time, interrupted us all to ask if we had paid our exam fees (even though we all had ACCA exam dockets) And chatted about 5 minutes about people who arent paying their exam fees, even though said people are not in our exam room. Resulting in shortened reading time, plus throwing our train of thought way off, as we were now thinking of unrelated things. We were also told even if we bring our exam docket, we must also bring proof of payment to write any further exams???
She then proceeded to chit chat with her friend the entire 3hours, and snack, and in and out of the room. Was the most disruptive exam I have ever written with ACCA, and completely inappropriate.
I dont believe we should be interrupted during our exam to talk about fees, when none of us have outstanding fees.
Thank you
John Moffat says
You should immediately email the ACCA at
st******@ac********.com
Obviously tell them which centre it was, your student number, and repeat what you have posted above.
If you have any friends / colleagues who were in the same position, then get them to email as well.
The ACCA will investigate, and may ask you for more information. If they feel it is warranted then they will take it into account in the marking.

How long does the exam last for?Could I go to toilet during the test?
John Moffat says
F1, F2 and F3 last 2 hours. All the other exams last 3 hours (plus 15 minutes reading time)
Yes you can go to the toilet, but an invigilator will go with you.
lisana says
I would like to know, If someone leaves the exam hall for example 5 min and turns back (with the invigilator company), does it has the right to postpone the exam time for the 5 minutes he missed ? (using this way the full exam time the one has the right to)
MikeLittle says
No, that would be nonsense! You should plan your bathroom visits better!
Tariq says
I want to know what kind of ball pen used in exam ?,, also can we used marker?
John Moffat says
You have to use black ink (ballpoint) only.

Thanks johnmoffat . .
