Hey John, I was listening very attentively (as I always do) to see if you would mention anything about the “extra cost’ for S in regards to the patent, especially as there was no cost indicated about it and the info about the 10% increase from last year’s sales volume. I was looking at the information as a ‘red herring’ and I see that I was right.
i wrote paper F5 last year dec 2012 and scored 40i did not answer question 3 at all, because i didnt learn to manage my time, that i forgive myself for, what i cannot get out of my head is that i had the chance to score all 20 marks on this particular question, which am sure i scored just 8 for, why/, cause the night before the exams,i went through kaplan’s website and CVP was one of the likely question they feel might be featured for dec 2012, i rushed back to this wonderful site and our wonderful lecturer, grasped everything and was confident, when i saw the first question i smiled, but lo and behold after answering the a and b i got stuck, why i forgot how to plot the graph, even though i had worked out the cumulative profit and all…2 lessons…TIME MANAGEMENT AND LOTS OF PRACTICE IS KEY…Thanks to Mr Moffat, He does his best…now its left to us….i wish i can write this much in my written part of the exams…sorry for keeping u folks…now go back to UR REVISION….
I think it would be so much more effective if we try and solve the question on our own first and then come here and attend the lecture and see how you are approaching it so we can identify our mistakes.. Just thought I should share that, perhaps others will do the same which is more useful than just watching without practicing ourselves.
Why didn’t we calculate the weighted avg C/S ratio in the first part of the question by simply adding up the contribution per unit and adding up the selling price per unit for all the products and dividing them (i.e. 144/390)? wouldn’t this be much easier and quicker than getting the totals and dividing? I have done it this way and I am concerned that my c/s ratio isn’t the same as you, it comes to 0.37 when you do it my way which is different than yours. I was under the impression that I will have the same c/s whether it is in totals or per unit terms. Do I have to do it in totals to get the correct answer?
Yes – you either have to do the totals (which is the quickest) or else take a weighted average of the separate CS ratios, weighted by the total sales revenue of each.
The reason that you way does not work is that you are not taking account of the fact that we are selling in the budgeted ratio (i,e, more of one and less of another).
Okay I get it! Now it is clear, I was not taking the budgeted ratio into account. So yes I believe getting the totals is easier than the separate c/s ratios!!
Mr John, I am getting shy of your kindness and generosity for your prompt and constant help, I am serious!!! Thank you very much, if I pass my coming F5 exam I will owe it to you, if I don’t pass I will still be thankful! but let’s hope I will pass lol 馃檪
Hi admin, The exam questions cannot be download. The link that downloads from Acca site is not working. I checked Acca site but can,’t find. Please help. Thanks
The ACCA has just redesigned the whole of their website. We are updating the links as quickly as possible, but it will mean that some links are not working at the moment.
Hi John, I am sorry for the question, maybe I am wrong, but I think there is a mistake in this video on the 21 minute. When you draw a line S, to find point you take coordinates (3520000;1792000), shouldn’t it be on axis revenue 5720000 which is cumulative revenue for products C and S?
Thanks 馃檪 I will give my tips soon, but now is too early. Anything we tip is only a guess and for F5 you cannot risk it – you have to study all the topics.
i missed by six marks in dec sitting i believe that this is question that stumped me as i barely did anything on it. i tried to cover all the topics especially those that i am not familar with and doing all the questions in the revision kit. thought i was fairly comfortable with this one but in the exam this was one of the worst answered one for me i did better with performance measurement and ABC than those i thought i had down pat i made silly mistakes.
I study on my own using OT lectures bpp study kit and revision kit.

When drawing a graph, why do we take for D total of 8840000, but then for S we took 3520000, why didnt we take 572000 ??
John Moffat says
We should take 5720000 for S.
