Have ACCA changed the date for results as I was expecting them on Friday. I assumed I must have made a mistake but as they’ve changed the date for email/text notification registration (as Calum’s post above seems to confirm), I wondered if all the dates had been changed.
August 8, 2014 at 6:07 pm #188648Same as lots of previous posters. I got 71% but was expecting in the high 80’s. I’ve passed all the other F papers with an average of 90% and expected F9 to be the same. I was happy with the paper so was a bit surprised by 71%. I’ve always predicted my marks to within a couple of % but it appears my guess was way off with this one.
Strange how Byron, dhananjay2012 and myself all got 71% but were all expecting 80+.
June 8, 2014 at 2:29 pm #175202I would agree with Daniel. To me, incremental fixed costs is just telling you that they are incurred as part of the new project so should be included in the calculation, as opposed to being existing fixed costs which wouldn’t be included (as stated above, past exam papers support this). I also got a negative NPV which is what I expected to get as the question hinted that it would be negative by saying that it was strategically worthwhile and to later assume the value was zero. If the NPV was supposed to be positive, we’d have included it in the final overall NPV value later in the question.

January 2, 2014 at 9:12 pm #153684BPP study texts usually state on the front cover which exam periods they are valid till. All of my F BPP books are valid up to June 14.
January 2, 2014 at 9:09 pm #153683Personally I would do the Int version. The UK version is the same syllabus/exam except that up to 10 of the 100 marks can be taken from the extra UK syllabus. I didn’t find that the BPP or Kaplan books catered very well for the extra UK bit (BPP were exceptionally bad and I’m normally a die hard BPP fan). The vast majority of students in my exam hall in June 13 were sitting the Int version.
Ultimately, the UK syllabus is 10% larger but you get no extra credit for doing it so you may as well just do the Int version.
December 21, 2013 at 8:37 pm #153325Yes, you’re right, all the BPP books are valid up till Jun 14 and they were released just after the Dec 12 exams so were valid for 3 sittings. If you want BPP books for Dec 14, you’ll need to wait for the next edition which I imagine (only guessing from when they released the current books) will be just after the June 14 exams.
If you want to start working towards the Dec exams earlier you might want to do a bit of research into which exams don’t have much change in syllabus from one year to the next, and just use the current texts.
September 8, 2013 at 9:32 am #140081I don’t think F7 and 8 are any more linked than any of the other papers. I did them together but I really don’t think it would have made any difference either way.
September 8, 2013 at 9:29 am #140080I did F7 and 8 in June and can’t recall anything in F8 that depended on F7 knowledge. Ratios are covered in both so handy to be able to use that knowledge in both, but they are also covered in F5 and 9 too, so even that argument doesn’t really hold.
Do F8, having not done F7 will not hold you back at all.
August 30, 2013 at 7:36 pm #139364Oh yes, I agree getting off is a nightmare. I’ve got a bit wiser to it now and try to park near the exit but I can still end up stuck for 30mins or more.
The extra parking is the left bit of the building (if you face the front doors). If you come in the entrance which is off the side road (rather than the one directly off the ring road), just keep following the road to the left and you’ll see the big roller doors in front of you. No idea how many spaces there are inside but there was a nice queue trying to get out if it. Bearing in mind the size of the venue and the fact that it caters for huge weddings, I can only assume that the indoor parking is quite substantial.
August 30, 2013 at 1:26 pm #139338Which way do you travel to NBH? There is one main route in which once took me 90mins to do the last 2 miles. My sat nav normally routes me around that road, and I can do my journey in 30 mins (from about 5 miles the other side of Dudley) so your route for the last couple of miles can really increase your journey time if you’re not careful. I generally hit very little traffic.
I’ve also had quite different experiences at NBH, I normally get there between 8 and 9 depending on how much last minute revision I want to cram in and have never had issues parking. At 8 I’m normally one of the first there and park in the best spot for a quick get away at the end! Can I just check you know about the indoor parking to the left of the building – I only ask as I only realised it was there in December, but even arriving at 9am, I’ve never struggled to park in the main car park. Perhaps I’ve just been really lucky and had quiet exams?
August 24, 2013 at 2:31 pm #139017Eackary – I sat F2 and 3 straight after AAT even though I could have claimed the exemptions, and I found it very useful to condense all the knowledge (F1 not so much). Plus you get the ACCA diploma after F1-3 if this would be useful for your CV.
My opinion was, if I already knew it, it wouldn’t take me long to do, whereas if it took me a long time, then I probably hadn’t known it well enough in the first place, in which case sitting them was sensible.
August 24, 2013 at 6:55 am #138992I would always suggest buying a study text from one of the approved learning providers (as do Open Tuition themselves). In my opinion, that’s the only way you are guaranteed to have covered the whole syllabus in enough detail to guarantee a pass.
Buying a book from the offset is cheaper than a failed exam fee.
August 23, 2013 at 8:44 pm #138985Eackary – I did F2 and 3 as I wanted to pass them rather than claim exemptions. I then did F6 in that sitting as I had done the tax units as my optional unit’s in AAT so it followed on nicely. I then did F4 as I come from a legal (ish) background, with F7 and F8 as they were the two units I was looking forward to most. So only doing F5 with F9 as they just happen to be the 2 left!
That said, I did find that there was a bit of overlap between F4 and F8, and F7 and F8 so that was a good combination. Though I’m now finding some overlap between F5,7,8 and 9 so apart from F6, I think there’s overlap in whichever combo is chosen!
PS I also feel old!
August 22, 2013 at 8:26 pm #138932Another one here!
I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old. After having my 2 year old, I started ACCA as a home studier and did F1. I then fell pregnant with baby number 2 so switched to AAT (as would have had to miss the June 12 ACCA exams as due to give birth), and completed that just after she was born. I then went back to ACCA whilst I was on maternity leave and did F2,3 and 6 in Dec 12, and F4,7 and 8 in June 13 (all via self studying). I’m hoping to do F5 and 9 in December.
I’ve just finished my maternity leave and started my first accounting job last week!
August 19, 2013 at 9:09 pm #138613Oogabooga is absolutely correct. It’s well documented and I’m surprised if any current ACCA students don’t know about these interim qualifications.
My Diploma is shown with my other ACCA certificates in MyAcca.
August 13, 2013 at 8:53 pm #137938I’ve just passed F7 and F8 with 80 and 85% (I did F4 too). I self studied using a BPP text and a BPP exam kit. This was all I used. Despite being on the OT forum, I didn’t actually use any of their materials as I learn better by using books rather than lectures.
So, yes, perfectly possible to pass by self studying.

WOAH…congrats. 🙂
ANY TIPS? FOR F7 AND F8.
When exactly do u start revising to get such good grades??
3 months before e exams?? 🙂Practice, practice, practice. I won’t lie, I put the hours in. I had a few weeks off after the Dec exams but started again after Xmas. With 2 young children, I have to study when I can so wouldn’t be able to risk leaving it till 3 months before an exam.

Do you work for an employer as well or study full time?I’ve been on maternity leave with a baby and a 2 year old. So, a matter of opinion as to whether I study full time or work full time!
August 10, 2013 at 8:02 am #137320Hi Dahir,
If memory serves me correctly, there are some “which 2 of the following statements are correct” type questions.

Woah!!!! What’s your secret????No secret really. I self study, so read the whole text book from cover to cover, and make very comprehensive notes. I then use my own notes to study from and sit every past exam paper as well as all the extra questions in whichever exam kit I’m using.
So, just lots and lots of preparation.

August 9, 2013 at 3:00 pm #137067F8 – 85%
F4 – 82%
F7 – 80%
All first attempts 🙂August 7, 2013 at 8:24 am #135228Did you get an exemption from F3? If so, it sounds like you may need to buy an F3 book and work through that first. F7 is fairly tricky, you’ll really struggle if you haven’t got the basics pinned down first.
