    Hi Hong,

That really depends on your objectives. I know of students who use the OBU as a stepping stone to pursue their Masters. OBU is AACSB accredited, so that helps a lot when applying to a European University.

    More information: https://www.aacsb.net/eweb/DynamicPage.aspx?Site=AACSB&WebKey=CADEF77A-6573-49BB-9BA2-CE21EC93841E

From Singapore where I come, the degree is also helpful in obtaining a work permit (for foreign students), as the immigration quotas require a basic degree for work in certain positions.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi all,

I got registered in CAT (now FIA) in June 2003. Completed CAT and got transferred to ACCA in June 2005.
Am I still eligible to apply for OBU BSc degree (based on 10 years rule)? If yes, is this submission period in May would be the last one?

@zulaickhalid I believe you probably have just the one submission opportunity left now. I would recommend that you use a good mentor as you need to get through at the first attempt. The Learning Luminarium our approved mentoring service has a good pass rate so you could use them or someone else who similarly also has a high standing and good track record that has been recommended. Suggest you check eligibility with the OBU Admin Office – you should get a fairly prompt reply. Good luck to you! πŸ™‚

    Hi
I need help concerning OBU. I didn’t opt for OBU but its not too late. I really want to opte but I don’t know if is possible if I’m not working and doing self-study. how do I get a mentor then?Does anyone in the same situation as me opted for OBu and passed it? Just don’t want to waste time. if it’s not possible I can start with f7.
    thanks

@josy87 – In principle provided you submit within 10 years you can opt in. However we do not make up the rules and the only authority on this is the Admin Office of OBU. If you contact them directly about eligbility they will normally respond within a couple of days (except at weekends and public holidays) but set out all the relevant details.

Regarding mentors then as explained elsewhere on our forums (search using the key word ‘mentor’ ) you need to register as a mentee (no cost is involved at that stage) and you will have access to the mentoring section of the OBU website and the list of registered mentors and their contact details.

“Does anyone in the same situation as me opted for OBu and passed it?” – what do you mean by this question? The pass rate is about 55% (possibly lower for first time submissions) so of course people who have opted in make up this statistic as no-one can enter if they have not opted in.

@farli – I doubt it as far as OBU is concerned but I cannot say what the position is with ACCA. The RAP markers have to be able to make sense of your work and as your English is fluent there will be no probs there.

You should contact ACCA direct if you are worried as they are the ones that messed around with F4 and confused everyone!

@farli – I find it quite clear now with ACCA having reorganised their content on the web site. You can find OBU eligibility information in the link below, where it also include English language qualification requirement for specified countries:

    Hi Anna,

I passed my F4 paper sitting June 2014 session, I guess I can consider that as proof of English proficiency, right? I do not understand why, when I ask this question to ACCA they keep answering me “Please note that from June 2014, a pass in paper F4 can no longer be used to meet this requirement.”

In addition, this is the message I get on myacca profile. “You will be opted into the ACCA/Oxford Brookes Degree Partnership on completion of Paper F4”. Now I am a bit confused as I passed my F4 paper…

    thank you

    Best Regards,

    Salva

    Hi Salvatore

If you have passed the F4 paper in June 2014 sitting, then it should be considered to be a proof of English language proficieny. I recommend contacting ACCA via their online chat to double check that is the case for you. Here is the link – https://acca.whoson.com/chat/chatstart.aspx?domain=www.accaglobal.com&SID=0&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

I would also ask them about why your ACCA account shows the message regarding the F4 paper. I hope they will be more helpful this time and you get to the bottom of this all.

I have not taken any of F7 F8 F9 yet. Can I take F8 exam before I submit my English proficiency for opting OBU Bsc degree ? And then submit my IELTS. Then F7 and F9.

I want to be eligible for the degree and do not miss the opportunity.
    Please advise .

    Thank you.

@kokogul – as far as I am aware you cannot opt for the degree if you have completed F7/8/9. You may have already been opted in (that is the normal default these days) in which case you will be fine but you need to check your status on this on accaglobal

If you have queries relating to whether you fulfil the eligibility requirements for your standard of English then these are best addressed to ACCA directly and not OBU.

Regardless of any certificates held students need to be able to express themselves sufficiently well in English that markers can understand the main points they are making to give the student credit for their ideas and commentary. Perfection is not required but an adequate ability to communicate effectively is necessary. Occasionally if the standard of English is poor then an OBU marker will fail work because the marker has struggled too much to try to make sense of what the student has written.

I read just now that to be eligible for obu degree one must have an English language qualification certificate before passing papers F7, F8 and F9.

    I intend to write f7,f8 & f9 in june 2015 eventhough i will write f5 & f6 in december 2015. I have passed f1-f4 already.

Do i still need to submit English language qualification certificate before june? Do i have to submit the certificate even before writing one of these papers or i can write for example any 2 from f7 f8 & f9 and submit the certificate before writing the last paper? Or i can write the 3 papers in June and submit the certificate before the result in august?

Please help me in this regard

    Thanking in advance.

    Hi fellow friends,

Can anyone give me an insight on what we can actually look forward to after completing OBU degree?

I plan to continue my study in taking up Master instead of ACCA professional levels. It might sound not a very good choice but I want to have an assurance that I can get a valuable certificate after graduation that will help me since I am open to other work opportunities beside accountancy. In fact, I am not keen to continue this route because I realized my passion and interest is not here.

Currently, I am working full time and going to be sitting my final F level, F9 this coming exam. After that, I plan to do the OBU degree programme.

I am afraid my result will be the 2nd or 3rd class degree but I really hope is it possible to proceed to Master study with what I have.

    I am very lost.

Thanks for your time to reply!!

@charmaine sf – life is about what is right for you and if your heart is not in accountancy then that is your right to pursue fulfilment elsewhere.

Normally most universities expect students proceeding to a Masters degree to have 2.1 (upper second class honours) or a 1st class honours degree. However this is not set in stone, I have know someone with 3rd class honours who was allowed to go on the course. It depends on the university/course, if you have other qualifications (your ACCA exams unfortunately already count towards your OBU BSc, so this means any other additional qualifications ), age and other experience as they often make a decision based on whether you are likely to be fully committed to completing the course and likely to benefit from it.

Could you help me to clarify which English exam needs to be able to be eligible to OBU?
I check ACCA website but I found it not completely clear.

    Thank you very much

Has anyone use the OBU degree to apply for postgraduate studies? What kind of people can be the acadmic referees if you have self-studied the degree program?

@moioi – well done for deciding to continue with your studies. For most post-graduate courses you have to provide evidence that you have a 2.1 or 1st Class honours Bachelor degree – so if your ACCA /OBU BSc in Applied Accounting is in this category then you will fulfil the academic requirement for entry on the course.

I think universities are keen to establish for post-graduate courses that the student is (a) suitable student material in terms or requisite skills, aptitude and commitment and (b) they will benefit from the course.

I presume that you have someone lined up for a character type reference? Regarding an academic reference – did you do all of your ACCA studying distance learning on your own? In many respects this shows a lot of good skills as it demonstrates that you are able to plan your time, manage your work and are capable of independent study and research. Is there anyone from your circle who has a higher degree who though perhaps not directly involved in your studies can write a statement along these lines commenting upon your study skills and your methodical approach to undertaking the OBU project?

In some respects the references are a formality but if you explain your predicament I am sure those who administer the admission process will forward your concerns to the course tutor who would then perhaps be able to suggest flexible ways around your problem. As I mentioned the purpose of the reference(s) is to establish that you are mature enough in your study habits to cope with a post-graduate course. Good luck!

Hie I’d like to ask if I can eligible for the Oxford Brookes RAP for Period 31 (ie. Nov 2015) after completing F8 (my last paper in part 2) in the September 2015 exams. Is there a required timeframe before I do & submit my RAP?

@carolpemhiwa – that should be fine (assuming you opted in before F7). However you will need to complete and pass the ethics module by 30th September. The rules state this must be completed by then for P31 otherwise you will have to defer to P32 or such time when you have passed the ethics module.
