I want to ask Anna a question.

Is F4 becoming CBE from December 2014, or is it available for students after June 2014 exams. Thanks.

Eugboadi, if you pass F4 in June, you won’t be affected by the new changes.

Deelo… F4 will be available as CBE at December 2014 exam sitting for the first time.

    Hello all
Is there anyone can answer my question?

    I attempted 3 papers in December 2013. And i passed F5 and F6, but failed on F4.

    1. The thing make me curious is other students who i known also didn’t pass the F4 and didn’t submit the english language qualification, but they are opted into the OBU degree partnership. We all from one tuition, suddenly only two of us are not opted into the partnership and it make me so uncomfortable. Why?

    2. What If i attempt 4 papers this June which are F4,F7,F8 and F9, then pass on F4 and others. Is it make me eligible to opt in OBU partnership?

@brashizo – in my article about eligibility I was citing from the current Information Pack (2013/2014):

“Providing you complete Paper F4, then this will be acceptable. Oxford Brookes University deems Paper F4 as proof of English proficiency therefore you should complete this exam and opt in with ACCA before passing Papers F7-F9”

If you have received an email from OBU to the contrary then obviously the Info Pack needs to be updated to reflect this. Perhaps you could contact the Admin Office at OBU for direct clarification on this matter? I can then correct the information I present to students.

However if your English is proficient then there is generally no problem. Although the RAP submitted to OBU, as a British university, is marked by native English speakers, they do not expect perfect English as they appreciate that as a worldwide body, ACCA students do not all have the benefit of having English as their mother tongue.

However the RAP has to communicate information effectively and occasionally there can be failures on the grounds of “Communication”, one of the assessment criteria under Graduate Skills. This is applied as following: “Meaning often unclear” and / or “Grammar and / or spelling contain frequent errors” and if significantly evident, will be construed as non-competent whereas “Language mostly fluent” and “Grammar and spelling mainly accurate” will be assessed as competent. In my experience the markers usually only fail on Communication if they really have to struggle to understand the concepts of what is being presented and overall they feel that the RAP lacks coherency to the point that they really do not understand much of what the student has written.

Note: I have changed the Forum title you started to one with a more suitable title

@brashizo you are right. From now on F4 is no longer accepted as a proof of English proficiency. I wrote an article about this on my website which talks about this change and the possible alternatives to prove your English proficiency.

    @trephena
ACCA has confirmed to me that as F4 will be a computer based exam from December 2014, it can no longer be used to satisfy the English language requirement.

From December 2014, the ACCA will look at external qualifications only. The good news is that there are many options available to you. The ACCA has put together a list of qualifications which satisfy ACCA’s English Language Requirements for Oxford Brookes degree. The list was last updated on 28th November 2013.

    I hope that helps.

    Helo

    i gave this june 2014 F4, F5 in which i passed F5 but failed F4 @46.
now from what i have heard is that F4 was your bridge to BSC degree so if u cleared that you were good to go ahead and take any papers of your choice.

In my case i have heard is that whether i do F4 now or later i must submit an English qualification proof to ACCA then only i can take F7, F8 and F9 other wise i will lose BSC Degree.

can you please help me out in this matter ??

@abdullahzafar Sorry but unfortunately I think if there is no way you can opt back in, the answer is no, you cannot do the OBU BSc in Applied Accounting.

We have had this question before on the Forums and I think the answer is tied up to the rules on accredited prior learning. In the UK a degree normally involves a 3 year course of study but you can be given a certain amount of prior learning credits to shorten this period however as far as I know this accreditation ( which ultimately is laid down by the body that governs UK universities not OBU itself) will not allow more than a certain amount of accreditation before you enter a degree programme and anything over and above that cannot be counted. What this means in practice is that F4, F5 & F6 give the maximum number of credits allowed and the rest has to be learning done after you have entered the programme, so if you have already done F7/8/9 these cannot be counted and therefore you would not end up with sufficient credits overall for the degree.

I know it sounds harsh, but OBU cannot do anything about this as they don’t make the rules, they just have to abide by them. To try to avoid this now, new students agree to join the programme when they register with ACCA and actually have to opt out if they don’t want to submit the RAP. If they have opted out then they can change their mind and opt back in as long as they have not passed F7/8/9

@kamlesh. I covered this in the FAQs
    https://opentuition.com/obu/obu-faq-frequently-asked-questions/

( see the OBU home page and the information there is from the latest OBU Information Pack).

Your English sounds fine so as long as you comply with the formalities, you shouldn’t have any practical problem with the RAP itself (in our answer an OBU marker pointed out that additionally markers need to be able to understand what students are writing about)

@kamlesh In order to remain eligible for the OBU degree, please contact ACCA directly (ideally as soon as possible) with the proof of your English language proficiency.

You must do this before sitting any of the F7-F9 papers. The chances are you have submitted such a proof when registering for the ACCA, but it is always a good idea to check this and receive a confirmation of your eligibility.

@abdullahzafar. The only scenario in which you can opt back to the degree scheme is if you haven’t sat F7 – F9 papers and you prove your English language proficiency before passing F7, F8 and F9.
