I found that exam tough, don’t get me wrong it was fair and there where some easy questions like the preconditions for audit engagement which were an easy three marks which but I drew a blank on! The substantive tests were fair but I just wasn’t prepared enough to describe and explain different methods based on the scenarios. My biggest regret was the 14 marks for identifying/describing and providing recommendations for audit risks in the scenario. That should have been an easy question with maximum marks achieved instead I think I managed three maybe four but they clearly asked for SEVEN which means there would have been more than, but I had nothing, I don’t even think the my answers will get any marks. Yes, feeling defeated today, guess the solution to that is to just start studying again for June.
June 7, 2017 at 11:13 pm #391631I took F8 CBE, was this different compared to the paper based exam as I did not have any question that required ratios to be calculated?
Also my exam said something about it being for 110 marks but 10 marks dont count and are use for Q&A purposes. How do they manage that without me losing out on potential marks???
Also did no one have to calculate the amount forecasted salary cost for staff? I think it was £38.88M if I remember correctly?

I can’t help but feel this paper ignored all of the key concepts around performance management. No LeaLearning curve, no linear programming, no throughput, no transfer pricing or price and demand etc. Alot of supplementary stuff hit for big marks which made no sense. How a paper like this was published for an exam is surprising. I studied key areas, and these appeared not to have landed. Questions were poorly written also. Perhaps the examiner should try communicate scenarios better. There was also a question on environmental stuff and the requirement was “which is MOST LIKELY” to be affected when referring to stakeholders. Very very poor from ACCA.I agree… Let’s see what happens when the dust settles!
September 9, 2015 at 10:17 pm #270911Yeah it was an easy question, but I think it was unnecessarily drawn out for something as easy as that. I kept pouring over it thinking I missed something or misunderstood.
September 9, 2015 at 10:13 pm #270910@duc hung, I did the same as you for those questions. For the minimax I got 600 bunches. For the relevant cost question I put $110 but see now why this maybe wrong…
September 9, 2015 at 3:06 pm #270763Anyone else struggle with the question on weighted average for the percentages of overall satisfaction of the bus company? The question just baffled me for what was only a 2 mark question it was not worded very well and confusing. The problem is it led into the higher mark questions which were discursive based on your answer too this. In real life I would be able to ask for clarification on a requirement if I didn’t understand, however here I can only hope that I understood and responded correctly. Maybe I just didn’t understand the subject well enough, huh?
August 2, 2015 at 2:08 am #26453932% I’m actually really gutted by this. Second attempt too, I even gave up trying to do two papers and just focused on F5 and I still managed to fail and worse than the first attempt which was 42%. Feel like such a loser going to find it hard to bounce back from this and begin again for a third attempt… Sigh
July 15, 2015 at 8:18 pm #260859Yes Chloe, I had to get in touch with my tutors, ask questions on the forums here etc. all of the things you would do normally when you self study. Looking back at my comment, I probably made it sound a lot worst than it is, as there weren’t too many mistakes just enough for me to notice the issue.
June 25, 2015 at 4:04 pm #258829I’ve had issues with LSBF books in the past, usually just bad print and typos but most frustratingly there have been occasions where the exercises have incorrect answers or poor explanation of how calculations have been done leaving you feeling like you’ve lost your mind. I would suggest if there is no downside to you borrowing the books, then go ahead. But read carefully lol!
June 2, 2015 at 6:10 pm #252059Thanks for taking the time to do this John, I’ll be able to sleep alot better for the next 8 weeks or so until exam results are released.
March 24, 2015 at 11:21 pm #238630Thanks Mike! I think it’s a good example of just how difficult the examiner makes these cbe questions. It’s really important to make sure you read and understand what is being asked. I found many of the cbe exam questions just confusing and structured in a way that can have you misinterpreting the requirement especially under exam pressure.

March 20, 2015 at 11:00 am #233429Hi,
Had my F4(ENG) CBE exam today and passed with 73%. I purchased the practice test on MyACCA and found them very useful as it really helped me familiarise myself with the style of questions and how the questions are posed. Also the feedback from the test is excellent as it shows you a diagram of the syllabus area you were tested on and colour codes each area, red means you scored below 50%, amber 50 – 60% and green for 70% and above. This really helped me identify which areas I was week on and where I needed to improve. You can drill down further and actually see which questions you got wrong and what the correct answers were and for what reasons.
February 8, 2015 at 1:00 am #226064Failed 48% Sigh… I really tried hard, just have to do better next time.
February 8, 2015 at 12:56 am #226050Failed 42% All good, first written exam and I did find it hard, so will concentrate on the weak areas and tackle again in June.
December 1, 2014 at 5:06 pm #215249anuj428 – MCQs where ok just a mix of questions from the syllabus, I use LSBF so can’t comment on BPP/Kaplan.
December 1, 2014 at 5:03 pm #215244I think it was a fair exam, but just nothing like any of the past papers or the revision I’d been doing, crazy!
December 1, 2014 at 5:00 pm #215242Question 4 YIKES!!
December 1, 2014 at 2:23 pm #215130Hai Yen, my answers came out higher so I probably got it wrong. Balance score card question threw me, but I just wrote as much as I could to define sensible goals and performance measures relating to the scenario. Hopefully markers are generous!
December 1, 2014 at 2:06 pm #215119Yeah I don’t think I did very well, going to have start preparing for resit in 2015
October 22, 2014 at 8:16 pm #205483Thank you John!
So:
42 x 35 / 135 = 10.88* Mark up
42 – 10.88 = 31.12* Target cost
33.55 – 31.12 = 2.43* Cost gap*rounding
