I failed UK P 6 three times with 35, 33, 27 in Dec 17, Mar 18, Jun 18. Giving up , so please advise which optional to take P 4 or P 5 ? Those who have taken both of these papers which should I go ?I have easily cleared P 7 as I am a wordy person rather that numbers one. I hated F 5 and barely passed on 3rd attemtp. Enjoyed F 9 and understood concepts much better that in F 5. Passed on 2nd attempt with higher mark than in F 5. However, I’ve red somewhere that P 4 is a too technical and quite specilised area syllabus (like P 6). You have to know many things than in P 5 where you do not have to have the special knowledge but common sense. But I did not F 5 concepts well . Do you think that good knowledge of F 5 is a key to pass P 5 ? I did not like P 3 but passed it easily with no preparation even with marginal score.
I passed P5 first time around – it overlaps a lot with P3 so if you were okay on P3 then I reckon you’ll be fine on P5. I am struggling with P4 – failed 3 times now. And I did the same with F9 – got it the fourth time around so hopefully I will get through P4 one day soon. It is very technical and you need to read a lot and apply a lot of what they seem to think is general knowledge. I think if you got through F9 you might be okay with this paper though. But the calculations are horrific!!
July 17, 2018 at 7:59 am #463362Failed 3rd attempt with 44%. TBH it’s more than I expected – I found the paper very tough. I just can’t seem to pass this paper. It’s my last one – aaarrrggghhh!!!
April 16, 2018 at 9:13 am #447227Failed my second attempt – 45%. I just did not practise enough and I knew that going in. The paper was fair too – I would have passed it had I done more practise. I am kicking myself now as I have to rewrite AGAIN and it’s my final exam to pass. Oh well, back to my studying for a June sitting. And I really thought I might scrape through. Well, I was hoping anyway.
March 10, 2018 at 5:42 am #441968I thought Q1 seemed too easy so I am sure I didn’t do it right!! Question 2 I left until last and ran out of time – I’m so mad with myself as I spent too long on q4 with the blasted futures!! I HATE foreign exchange ? I hope I pass – my final ACCA exam and 2nd attempt. I’m so over it now.
January 15, 2018 at 11:17 am #429933Failed with 34% but I did arrive 20 minutes late to the exam due to a massive traffic jam so I didn’t finish the paper. I did not do my last question so I missed 25 marks. I’m still glad I went in to write it though – makes me believe my studies were going in the right direction as I did get some marks for what I did write! Will re-write in March and hope to pass my final exam then!! Can’t wait to qualify!!
December 8, 2017 at 5:33 pm #422019Disaster! There was a massive traffic jam on my way there so arrived 20 mins late and panicking. Q1 was very confusing – I thought mark allocation vs time was terrible. I did q4 and then started q3 with 15 mins to go. I’ll definitely be rewriting in March but good luck to everyone ?
October 16, 2017 at 8:44 am #411712I passed first time with 53% – I am thrilled! One more exam left – P4 in December 17. But that is going to be very hard I think. I found P5 not too bad but I thought I had done better than 53% tbh! Just goes to show. I think the key is time management. You cannot waste time in answering one big question and leaving out other stuff. Once I got the key points down I left big open gaps in my answer to Q1 with the intention to come back and beef up my answer. When my allotted time for Q1 was up I moved on to Q2 and when that time was up I went on to Q3. I did not have time to go over the paper at the end so I couldn’t fill in any of the gaps I had left! I was devastated. But I still got 53% so I did enough to pass. Get the key points down and don’t waste time repeating yourself.
September 8, 2017 at 3:08 pm #406760It definitely said the CEO used average capital employed so you had the Opening Balance and the Closing balances and then divide by 2 to get average Cap Empl.
September 7, 2017 at 9:38 am #406348I thought in Q3 part c we had to comment on the efficiency of the FCC project – you had to make calculations to see if they were collecting quicker, or collecting more etc. Well that’s what I did anyway – not sure if it’s right.
I agree – I didn’t feel too bad when I walked out of the exam but now I am doubting myself (as usual!)
September 7, 2017 at 9:35 am #406346For the Target cost in Q1 (TQM) I wrote about Kaizen costing – doesn’t that use a target cost to aim? reducing costs after each production run to achieve target cost over the product’s life? I wrote something like that anyway… not sure if it’s right!!
September 6, 2017 at 7:18 pm #406192I thought Q1 was good and interesting. I did ques 2 and ques 3 – with 10 minutes to go I realised that in q 3 they had given 12 months of one set of figures and only 6 months of the second set of figures so I had to re-do everything again for the third part for 11 marks! I did not finish but at least I managed to get some calculations down and a few comments. My first attempt at P5 so I am hoping for a pass but I suspect it may be a rewrite in December!
July 17, 2017 at 5:43 am #396729Passed – 59% – so delighted to have another one done! Two exams left so I hope to be qualified by the end on the year!!
June 9, 2017 at 3:53 pm #391955I thought it might be PESTEL and 5 forces so I worked hard on those questions – paid off well! I thought the paper was quite easy but is that just because we all practised so hard?? I had to decide between q2 and q4 as I did q3 straight after q1. Not sure I made the right choice but the financial analysis was quite interesting to say the least… definitely waived SOP off from Itras due to possible insolvency problems. It was an interesting question!! I liked q3 as our lecturer said Project management always comes up so that was another one I really concentrated on. Delighted – will also be surprised if I fail. Hope I don’t jinx myself now…
June 9, 2017 at 8:11 am #392104I had thought it might be PESTEL for this exam so I worked hard on those questions – and it paid off! I was delighted with q1 although I did think Political was a bit sketchy?? completely messed up on CSF, KPI’s and I never remember what IR is about!!
I did q3 as I had worked hard on Project management (our lecturer said it comes up often so I studied PM quite well) and that was okay. A bit of a strange project but I did back it as being a project (start/end date, budget, scope etc). Not sure about the cost/benefits?? Maybe increase in sales for the mud range?
I had to choose between q2 and q4 and now i’m questioning if I should have done q4 instead of q2. The numbers were really weird and i ended up saying to avoid Itras as they appear to be going insolvent… I think I might pass though.. fingers crossed!!
April 17, 2017 at 6:33 am #381897Passed with 71% on my first attempt – I am delighted! Three exams to go and I’ll be qualified. Thanks Chris for the brilliant lectures on how to answer section B of this paper. I thought I had done very badly but I used your technique and clearly it works!
March 8, 2017 at 9:03 am #376501I did fine on Q1 – found it quite easy. But the rest of the paper was tough – I just hadn’t studied the IAS’s enough to have enough knowledge at my fingertips. I am gutted – think I will fail… but it’s okay I’ll just be better prepared in June!!
October 17, 2016 at 5:42 am #343797Passed on my first attempt. I can’t thank Open Tuition enough – you guys rock! All F papers done – on to the P’s ??
July 18, 2016 at 6:25 am #32660571% – thank you so much John Moffat. This was my fourth attempt but my first time using Open Tuition – you are brilliant!!
April 18, 2016 at 10:47 am #3110922nd time writing – passed 78%. Thank you John Moffat – I hope you can do the same for me with F9!
