I didn’t think it was too bad an exam although no idea if I have passed.
I changed my approach for this exam, previously I would just start at Section A and work my way through and then end up running out of time on the written response questions.
So I started with Section C this time. I got the Lemon and Lime question as well as the Strawberry SOPL question. I overran on Lemon and Lime and only completed parts A & B initially as the Word Processing box was too small. The exam centre hasn’t caught up from 2001 and still has 17″ square monitors which didn’t help. I also found the highlighting tool wasn’t working properly as it would only allow you to highlight all the text on a bullet rather than the individual words as its supposed to. Someone else also mentioned the highlight feature not working properly. Luckily the SOPL allowed be to claw some time back although I had no idea what to do with the dividend in the SOPL.
I also managed to claw some time back on Sections A & B, I remember the free marketing question, I went for don’t include as the company hasn’t expensed anything for it, no idea if correct though. I also recall the Fleece questions, those questions were more apt for F2 in my opinion.
Some people above have mentioned the length of the Section C scenarios, I didn’t get the Samba question so no idea on that one but the ones I got were fairly short compared to what you get in AA(F8), those scenarios are long and you get 3 questions in that exam.
Anyway, I hope everyone passes. I plan on doing F9 next in September providing I passed this one. I am skipping the June session as I need a break from studying.
Regards

Hi. AA will be my first CBE exam this March. Any tips?Make sure you spend time on practice questions.
Learn how to describe Audit Risks, Tests of Controls and Substantive Procedures as they are all different. I didn’t spend enough time on practice questions so I hadn’t trained my mind to think properly when answering the questions on the above so I panicked a little in the exam and ended up writing for the sake of writing and didn’t know if it was correct or not, fortunately I managed to pass but only just.
There are some good videos on the ACCA website in the Technical Resources section which are good for describing the above.

I mentioned the same but wrote it as ROI (same as ROCE right?) and also wrote those reasons for the next parts, hopefully they score us students full marks.
Why do the results appear so late.? I started from FIA and I am so used to getting my results immediately that it has become a habit.F5 and beyond take so long for the results due to an element of the paper needing to be human marked.
It would be nice if they could show how we scored for the computer marked section(s) though so we know how many marks are left to be needed from the human marked section.

Hey , did you get the question how to prevent and detect fraud in inventory system?I think I did, was it something like ‘How can Internal Audit help the Directors with preventing and detecting fraud with the Inventory system?’ it was the last part of the second 20 mark question for me.

Btw how does the result appear.? Like do we get to see where we were wrong.? Do we get a report regarding the exam.?You don’t get any feedback, you will just get a Pass/Fail and Score.

Very tricky section A but section B was ok. My section B questions appear to be different from the ones mentioned in this thread. Questions I had were not about Snowball or Alabaster Co. I thought section B was always the same for everyone?Regardless, good luck everyone.
CBE’s take questions from a question pool so not everyone receives the same set of questions. The difficulty level should be the same however regardless of question set.
December 3, 2018 at 7:04 pm #487021My 30 mark question was mainly on Audit Risk with a little Substantive Procedure for Alabaster Co, there was that much text the risks weren’t jumping out as clear for me compared with the test papers I have done. I managed to get 6 down and then moved on as was over my time limit on the question, luckily I had 5 minutes left at the end so managed to go back and put the remaining 2 down although I am not confident I put enough to receive full marks.
My first 20 mark question was purely substantive procedure with the question on the auditor report already mentioned at the end, I think the company was called Retriever.
My second 20 mark question was Internal Control for Snowball, I think I did okay on this one although it depends on if I put enough or the correct detail to get the marks. I probably lost marks on the last component though regarding how Internal Audit can help the Directors with Fraud prevention. I got a few points down regarding testing various controls but then had a memory block.
I suspect I will fail as I didn’t put enough question practice in beforehand, I read a lot of the papers and answers but didn’t have enough time to actually sit them as exams and write my versions of the answers so struggled a bit at times.
Anyway its not the end of the world and I will be better prepared if I need to resit. 🙂

June 8, 2018 at 10:31 pm #457991You didn’t miss anything, that was the ask. However the tool has its limitations so you have to enlarge the cell by using wrap text (or by double-clicking the line between the row numbers). For some reason they haven’t added the Merge Cell option (within the formatting button) which would have made it easier to work with.
The Question 32 Debrief video available in the F5 Technical Articles section on the ACCA website includes some good tips on using the Spreadsheet tool.

Hi everyone, this was my first cbe doing acca. When i got to section C, the first question about Ted and E.V, it only gave me the option to input into an excel spreadsheet, but they were asking to discus some of the answers, i ended up writing my responses into the cells, i found this very annoying! Did i miss something?
June 7, 2018 at 5:53 pm #457599I also sat this exam yesterday and got Ted and AA Hotel for Section C.
I believe I also got the EV of $242400 which has been mentioned already, however I only did it across 3 outcomes as I used weighted average on the Merchandise Sales (no idea if this was right or not, I thought 9 outcomes might have been too many for the marks the question was worth). I originally missed the 60% margin comment though as it was on the very last line and off screen and noticed it later as I looked at the Probabilities question and thought all my profits are showing higher than $250K so why is this question here. I then noticed the 60% comment and had to tweak my formula and then redo some of the comments on the previous questions.
I also got the Optimal Sales Price Question also mentioned, I couldn’t remember how to do the calculation so just guessed which I presume wrongly based on others answers to that question. I never got chance to master that calculation as didn’t have enough prep time. I spent far too long reading the materials and not enough on exam prep.
I left the exam not knowing if I passed or failed and didn’t feel weird or worried about it. I decided due to my study screw-up that I would go in and give it a shot and if I fail then so be it and I will resit it in December.
I know for certain I have dropped 8 marks although there is a chance 1 question was part of the 10 marks which do not count. Fairly certain the other 3 count due to content of the question and location in the exam. At least 2 of the marks would have been lost on the Goals question for AA Hotel as I ran out of time needing still to enter 1 more goal and comment on it for Internal.
Anyway war and peace over hopefully everyone gets what they hope for with the results.
