Hello,
Hope you are doing well. I was thinking about leaving ACCA. Can’t take the stress anymore. My exams are passed till F9. If I complete my OBU degree then Msc in accountancy, the one ACCA is offering, and leave ACCA. Will my papers be wasted as there is a 10 year limit to complete ACCA.Hi,
In my opinion, it is better to complete your ACCA qualification. MSc is not an easier route either, if that’s the reason why you give up on ACCA. You are close to completing it, it will be a shame to give up.
Another option is try CPA Ireland, they do provide exemptions on ACCA papers passed and then complete their professional papers with them. They have open-book exams for their final papers which will suit some people. Their exams are also very difficult but they do test your application skills rather than your memory of the topics. Once you are a CPA, you can call yourself a qualified accountant. CPA Ireland has great MRAs which will help if you want to travel the world i.e. with CPA Canada, CPA Australia, CA India & Sri Lanka, etc.
By doing the CPA, you can also do MSc at the same time, which can only help you supplement your finance and accounting knowledge.

Firstly, the 10year limit to complete ACCA has been changed.
The new change is the 7 year rule.What is the seven year rule?
The rule means you have seven years to pass the Strategic Professional exams once you pass your first Strategic Professional exam. If you don’t pass all the Strategic Professional exams and reach affiliate status within seven years, you’ll lose any Strategic Professional passes achieved after seven years. These will need to be re-taken in order to complete the qualification.
Example Scenario:
If you passed your Advanced Financial Management exam in December 2013 it will be given an ‘expiry date’ of December 2020. If you have not completed all the Strategic Professional exams by December 2020 your Advanced Financial Management exam would expire and need to be re-taken.
There are no time limits for for passing any Foundations in Accountancy exams, nor any of the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams as part of the ACCA Qualification.

Well, I personally I believe after completing all papers uptil F9 you should move forward with your ACCA qualification.
You have just 4 papers remaining.
I know and I understand that yes it is a struggle and very stressful but no other qualification or degree programme is any easier. There are difficulties in everything.
You can do one thing, you can go slow with your ACCA qualification. The 7 years limit only applies to Strategic Level Papers.
Even if you give 1 Strategic level paper in 1 year, you can still complete this in 4 years.You can in the same time do the OBU RAP.
Also, it is up to you if you wish to venture in any other qualification where you can get exemptions from your ACCA progress…as @eagledave has suggested above.

I struggled with some of the ACCA papers up to F9, having to repeat some of them. I found the later exams easier to pass because I had established a good foundation, so don’t give up on ACCA. Even if you do decide to leave, your qualification thus far is definitely not wasted.
My suggestion is not to give up on acca. I wanted to drop acca so many times but your hard work pays off.
Level 3 papers are more challenging but also interesting with case scenarios.However, I would like to ask if anyone has taken a break from ACCA instead of continuous exam sittings and if it’s worth taking a short time off from ACCA please?

I will suggest you stick to the quarterly sittings, if you do this, it will abreast you to form the habit and some level of mastering the trend of ACCA exams.
Since March 2016, I have not miss the quarterly exam. I recently qualified this October 2019 as an ACCA member. I know few of my friends who rested and did not recovered the lost grounds they are yet to complete the qualification.
I did not say this to impress you but to impress upon you that resting has its own disadvantages e.g. missing a sitting that would have been an easy ride b’cos the question set are reasonable easy.

I have only two papers to finish, and I’ve heard a few people, and many of old classmates who gave up on acca and went to do other degrees. But I want to finish acca and not quit.
I’ve got my next exam scheduled for June intake after tomorrow’s. So in that way I know I’ve got acca exam lined up.
I figured a 6 months break from acca is way too long and I don’t want to drag acca any longer.Thanks! And congrats for qualifying!

SBL and after today’s paper, I’ll have to take apm again I suppose.
I finished afm in March this year. And missed the pass Mark for sbl by a few marks only in Sept 2019 sitting.

Sorry about the SBL, for your APM you never can tell, miracle happened in ACCA exam especially if the points you put down are reasonable or logical to the question asked.

Its been one and half year i started acca (from dec 2019 to march 2021 including corona break) and I have completed till now f4 and now perusing f8 and gave f7 exam ( unsuccessful attempt) which demotivated me alot and its killing me from inside
So
I am planning to drop out

I did study the book twice and kit more then 3 time and even did 5 years past paper and yet failed@ayush006 – there are lots of things you can do for a start:

You could take a look at this and see if there is anything that you are not doing in your preparation that you should be.Then at the top of the “Ask the Tutor ACCA AA Exams” forum https://opentuition.com/forum/ask-acca-tutor-forums/ask-the-tutor-acca-audit-and-assurance-aa-exams you will see five starred “sticky posts” posted by me. Please make sure you are familiar with all these resources.
Only you can decide, through reflection, why you failed – e.g. poor time management, “knowledge dumping” rather than answering the question set, uncertainty about what is an “auditor’s response” or other terminology. Then you can ask me more specific questions on the Ask the AA tutor forum. (And likewise for FR.)
@ayush006 – you’re on the right track with studying the material. I’m hoping you also use the OT lectures? Personally that helped me tremendously.
Also, may I suggest getting an up to date practice and revision kit (either BPP or Kaplan) and work through ALL the questions, even more than once.
Personally I looked at the question and answer at the same time, and then typed out the answers simply in my own words. I found that helped me to remember certain points, logically approach calculations and ultimately gauge how the examiner expects questions to be answered. This may help with AA in your case, where you can see how the examiner requires answers to be set out.
