    Hi sir,
I like to know what is the reason/rationale behind the different treatments for the goodwill impairment, in the fair value and proportionate methods.

    Hi,

When calculating the goodwill using the fair value method, the goodwill relates to that of the parent and NCI. When allocating the impairment, then the impairment needs to be apportioned between the parent and NCI.

When calculating the goodwill using the proportionate share method, the goodwill relates to that of the parent only. Any impairment in the goodwill is therefore allocated entirely to the parent’s retained earnings.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks

Got the logic sir, appreciate your reply. By the way one of my friends told me that he received an email from CIMA, saying the new syllabus OTQs will be starting from 4th of November 2019. So if it’s true, is there a way to get the old syllabus video lectures of the opentuition?(lessons like leases)

    Hi,

I’m aware that there are changes so the old videos and new videos will run alongside each other up to that date to ensure that there is no cross over.

    Thanks

That’s all right sir. Recently I found the open-tuition videos for IAS 18 and IAS 17 in you tube. IAS 17 was originally for ACCA. But I think I can manage. Appreciate your reply. BTW glad to see the increased amount of subscribers for the channel.

    Thanks,
    Charuka.
