    Hi

Failed AFM at my first attempt at 43.

The two items which threw me off in the paper was calculating kd for WACC using a bonds YTM & acquisition mixed, cash and share offer (I panicked and froze). I gave my view in the poll at the time but I didn’t not realise I’d fail by 7 marks. Frustrated as two of the question were literally picked out of the exam kit.
Well, it’s water under the bridge now.

What is the best way to tackle the Sept resit?
Is there sufficient time to get back to studying? I have not followed any changes since the paper have their been any I have the kit valid till June.
Where do I start as I’m slightly lost

I failed SBR twice in the mid 30’s before passing at 66 and I’m dreading a similar scenario.

There are no changes to the syllabus, so you have no worries about books.

In my opinion, best is to attempt every question in the your exam kit (without checking the answer until after you have attempted it) and use that to effectively revise all the topics. In addition, if you have not already done so, then you must work through all the technical articles not he ACCA website. Again, if you have not already done so, do watch my free revision lectures – I work through a few past question 1’s and discuss the approach as well as obviously the technical aspects.

As always, if you have any problems then do ask in this forum.

    Hi John

Unfortunate news, failed again at 44 this time. Speechless at present as really thought I had nailed the paper this time round.

Since the previous sitting I have begun studying APM for the Dec 21 sitting. Now with this fail I’m unsure whether to combine the two (resitting has not gone to my advantage before). Since I had started the APM syllabus I noticed a lot of lap over with SBL so was hoping to sit the two but now the fail has skewed that.

Appreciate ideally one paper is best sat but due to personal circumstances I need to complete the remainder 3 papers (1 compulsory & 2 optional) by the new financial year.

Do I go ahead with APM and pick up with AFM again or scrap it entirely? Should I even bother with SBL right now? A real spanner in the works. What are your thoughts?

I am really sorry to hear that you have failed the exam again.

When does your new financial year start? If it is the new calendar year then I think that it is too much to try and attempt 3 papers at one sitting. If it is later then obviously you can spread over two sitting.

APM has much more writing (as opposed to calculations) than Paper AFM, and only you know whether you are better at the written parts are at calculations.

As far as AFM is concerned, given that you have studied for it and that you felt you had done well, it seems a pity to scrap it entirely. I am wondering if maybe it is your presentation that is causing the problem. It might be an idea to contact a tuition company near you and ask if they provide a marking service. Then you could attempt an exam and get them to mark it and then you would find out where you are losing marks.

I am sorry that I cannot be of more help and I do obviously wish you success in whichever exams you do decide to take.
