I cannot comment on CIMA but I heard that admission requirements for ICAEW are quite strict unlike for ACCA. That’s why I assume the pass rate is so high and employers value ACA higher than ACCA. So I would say conclusion 1 is correct.

I think CIMA and ACCA is not really comparable because former is focused on management accounting and you can not be in practice with it and later is focused on Fin. Accounting and you can join audit firm with ACCA.

When comparing ACCA with ICAEW you should take into account:

option 3) Students mainly work in accountancy firms thus have more study support and employer/association interaction and actual practice with clients thus higher pass rates. ACCAs as I noticed mainly are accountants in business thus less study support and work environment doesnt have high pressure on completing qualification that is why I think lower pass rates.

Oh my the comments here are truly accurate! this exam was not the old run-of-the-mill type exam. It took a lot of thinking. That MIRR thing was way above my head! I calculated an IRR and used that pft!

definitely too much to read and retain then to answer. Then they asked you to assess the performance of the airline in Q2 a. using appropriate calculation, but due to time over runs in other questions i started to write an intro to the building block model then to realise..”thats not what they want”

Argg i just need 50, please examiner just 50 after scoring 49 the first time i sat this paper i deserve 50

    Hi everyone,

My apologies for the delay. I have been working until 12 every night. I will put the draft during this weekend, unfortunately I had some unexpected things to do at work.
    Keep checking this site!
Someone suggested that we can make online on a site the petition.
Can you help me with the name of the site?
    Thanks!

Who’s guessing the Exam Review Board will come out with the same old comment ” The P5 exam was challenging but fair…..”?

However, yet again, students seemed to not read the question, there was evidance of question spoting, and most students were not well prepared. Those who did make some strong points, did not make enough to pass the question, this is evidance of poor time management, and is unacceptable at this level of the ACCA exams. It appears that some tutors and tuition providers offered some poor guidence in this area. This is unfortunite given the article that was written, hense the lowest pass rate in ACCA history. However, as clearly demonstrated by the above, everyone else is to blame, as the exam was challenging but fair.

hey guys these petitions dont do a thing

ask all the people u know to fill the ACCA Examination survey ( you can check you email there should be a link posted.else u can use this link directly.

    https://www.webropolsurveys.com/Answer/SurveyParticipation.aspx?SDID=Uni515698

Well in June 09 people protested about the slaughter that Bob Ryan( previous P4 examiner) was making n they managed to get the attention of exam review committee ( Bob even elected not to renew his contract as an examiner) because of all the buzz on OT and other communities and the by filling the exam feedback form ( Last date is 25 June 2012 12.00 pm BST)

So please spread the word, would really appreciate if any mod can send a mail shot to all the p5 community members, to please fill the feedback form.

Hello AngryBird, I understand your frustration, but wouldn’t Alex Watt be right to have the students to analyse the case thoroughly and thinking the right models to apply the moment you look at a case scenario?

I mean, we are going to be ‘highly-paid’ accountants after all, and we will be working under directors who will give us orders to formulate useful performance measurements for the business, and wouldn’t their orders be unclear? Alex Watt has also made explicitly clear that we must always update ourselves with business news and current events, so expecting to churn out textbook answers was a no-no.

We make money out of the expertise we accumulate independently, not expecting to be spoon-fed and be told what to do. I think that’s what Alex Watt is trying to change our mentality this way.

I’m not saying no one should do the survey, everyone should give constructive feedback. I definitely have noted that timing was really tight, but it was fair and necessary. My lecturer told me that ACCA had attempted the questions before-hand to see if the paper can be finished in the allotted time first.

@angrybird: the link does not work, can you check it. I thought writing in survey would not help anything so i deleted the email from acca about survey. If it is true as you said, it is worth trying it. I also hava a bone to pick up with the examiner of p4 too. So please check the link asap. Many thanks!

Can everyone please complete the survey and tell them how unfair the paper was. I passed every other exam on my first attempt so I know I’m not stupid but this paper is making me doubt myself.

i agree with the above posters, for starters all of us should definitely fill out the survey and send it to ACCA. It might matter in the end, as it is the only method of student-exam board communication, i’d suggest everyone to fill it out first and we could go ahead with the petition as well.

shudnt leave any stone unturned in getting our voice across, should we?
