You losers are pathetic. I actually feel sorry for you. At least wait until the results before you start crying like little children. I can’t believe I’m reading grown adults calling for the examiner to be hanged, calling him a c***, wanting him fired, getting all internet detective to find his linkedin profile – are you serious?!!!
Whichever sad sack called for his hanging – what if your employer read that?! You’ve evidently learned NOTHING about professional behaviour, despite it being hammered home repeatedly throughout your exams.
Yes it was a hard paper but not impossible – why are you surprised that you’re expected to APPLY your knowledge in an unfamiliar scenario, especially when there was a technical article released SPECIFICALLY to remind you of this OBVIOUS point?
I found this a hard paper too – but grow the hell up, if it’s not difficult it’s not worth doing.Dude, I think you are Alex Watt undercover !! 🙂
I am not afraid of “What my employer would think”. My employer cares if I’m qualified or not! How frustrated the Examiner is, is not part of the discussion.
and YES, I THINK ALEX WATT NEEDS TO BE SACKED IMMEDIATELY. The scope of ACCA is not to be “imaginative students” when we have few minutes to read/analyse/structure the answer in “What Alex Watt was thinking about this?” and write!
When someone is mocking MY TIME, MY MONEY and MY LIFE, he should be AT LEAST fired. Once the results will show 15%-25% pass rate, it would be too late for many of us. Maybe you don’t have much to loose. I HAVE.

Why would I care about your results? Studying English literature would actually do you some good, since this paper required interpretation and independent thinking to pass – not brain-dumping and calculation, which unimaginative accounting students are far more comfortable with…Also, please be “imaginative” you little girl ( I suppose you are a girl, staying at home and reading books all day) and imagine that I am writing from devices called iPhone and iPad.
Spell-check is not automatic and, frankly, I DON’T CARE. This is a forum, a place to discuss IDEAS, not to show of on “Hey, my Word editor has a better spelling check software than yours” !!June 15, 2012 at 10:31 pm #98718AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

QUOTE from above:
“Why would I care about your results? “
“which unimaginative accounting students are far more comfortable with…”Looking at the construction of the phrase, it is obviously that YOU ARE NOT A STUDENT and YOU DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT THE RESULT.
Again, I think YOU are ALEX WATT undercover!

ENJOY YOUR RE-SIT too, you little…(and I let your imagination complete the rest)!June 15, 2012 at 11:35 pm #98721studiouscluedious, do not be worry, i know you are not Alex Watt, you cannot be Alex Watt. An examiner of professional exams cannot be so cheap to start a sentence with “ You losers are pathetic.“
You are an imaginative person who cares about poetry and imaginations. You do not have preferences or aims in life. So you do not worry about exams and numbers.June 16, 2012 at 12:02 am #98722AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

i saw alex watt profile on the internet ,he says he worked as p5 examiner till 2011, so who is the p5 examiner for this june 2012 sitting? is alex watt still working for ACCA?
June 16, 2012 at 3:01 am #98724omg, stop fighting guys!
its just a freaking small thing…
all the anger came from the exam and particularly to alex watt, so i think everyone has their own ways to handle their anger..
dont blame to some people for being ‘rude’ to the examiner, its just a way of expressing their disappointment.
may be a lil bit unprofessional, including myself but i believe that we deserve to get angry sometimes for particular reasons and in our own way, except punching2 kicking2 n stuff right?
so, chillax! its over now, nothing we can do except giving feedback to accaglobal n let us hope they will take action pertaining this matter…. (which 99% impossible but who knows?)…
take care everyone! 🙂June 16, 2012 at 8:32 am #98725AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

@smc5566,
I feel your pain. THese exams can indeed be a life-sucking experience. And in august and february the opening of results online email is as worse a nerve-raking experience as writing the exam itself. Good luck to all of you guys.June 16, 2012 at 1:43 pm #98727i passed p5 last year, but i agree the questions set by this examiner are ambiguous.
But it is optional exam, and you could read complaints before choosing this exam. If I did not pass i would have switched to p7, probably.June 16, 2012 at 2:13 pm #98728AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

This passive attitude will not get us anywhere. Let me explain why:
On Dec 11, I failed the exam with 48 marks. I paid £75 in order for ACCA to re-check my marking. Re-check MEANS: adding up all the points and see if they were correctly transposed to my email !! THEY WILL NEVER RE-MARK YOUR SCRIPT! They just told me that I have pass rating on 2 questions and failed 2 questions. Not even the marks/question.
I made the second complaint, on the Appeal Committee, asking to see my paper or to re-mark it. ACCA reply was, after paying another £65: the exam result is the same, we will not revisit the script.
ACCA feedback online=0. Nothing will happen.
What happened in the past, real case. My company (a Big 4), after all the people in the Company, starting with Managers and below failed one paper several times, addressed an official complaint as a Platinum ACCA Employer regarding the way that an Examiner constructed the questions and ask for a re-marking of the scripts: 60% were granted a pass. This, of course, was not public knowledge.
The power is in NUMBERS. If we are writing a complaint about Alex Watt as a GROUP, we will be HEARD. Otherwise, ignored and have to take this exam over and over again. I have finished 13 papers in 4 years and got stuck with P5 for the last 3 years!!
Please leave me your username from this site, so we can make a complaint as a GROUP regarding Alex Watt and this examination.
WHY: if the pass rate is very low ( as I will expect) ACCA has to raise the bar and push the numbers up, in order not to have an image problem. If we act now, they will likely investigate this BEFORE the marking process will begin.
AFTER the marking is done, IT WILL BE TOO LATE. I don’t want to take another exam in Dec and wait until March next year! Because, ladies and gentlemen, THIS IS WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT: You will be qualified best case scenario NEXT YEAR IN MARCH !!!

Damn the examiner, i do not understand why he set so unclear question in the test. What bothers him so much to set clear questions.

Yes, I would like to join you as a group.
June 16, 2012 at 2:52 pm #98731Why the examiner hasn’t set clear requirements. What makes him think that we have time for that in exams. The assessor may not be able to say to examiner that the paper is lengthy so please adjust it but we can.
I am sure they won’t bother our complains and in the Exam Review Board sitting, they will come up with those same ugly comments like every sitting that x% of students thought paper was, this that….WE MUST RAISE OUR VOICE because under the auspices of Performance Prism (which ACCA is trying to teach us) and Mendelow’s Power-Interest Matrix, STUDENTS are the most powerful force and have HIGH interest in ACCA.
What we want from ACCA:
Clear, manageable chunk-sized scenarios with clear requirements and we don’t want to see in the examiner’s report that “student did not read the requirements carefully” and hence lost many valuable marks and wasted valuable time.
The Honourable Shane Johnson must come back as his style, scenarios and requirements were very clear.
June 16, 2012 at 2:56 pm #98732Q4 Benchmarking Exercise and Benchmarked Position of so called GU Uni…there is no where in any official study text the computational example of benchmarking. If he is saying “Cost Drivers” at the end, why he hadn’t given a simple example of one cost pool and its cost driver.
What Alex wants from us ? What ACCA wants from us ?
I had a students, whom I thought the very first day that you “MUST” sit 4 exams per sitting has reached in the P Level Optional Papers in just 3 sittings and I am still there because of the so-called “CHALLENGING STYLE” of Alex Watt.
Now I think ICAEW and CIMA are better than ACCA as they ask questions under 10 marks and not more than 20 per question.
This is too much now.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
June 16, 2012 at 2:59 pm #98733In the beginning, Alex set easy stuff but as the time is passing by, sitting by sitting, he is setting it more difficult. And rather than passing the “ADVANCED PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT” exams, our own performance has flattened up and decreasing sitting by sitting.
Unfair ! Absolutely unfair.
June 16, 2012 at 3:03 pm #98734What would happen if we had passed. ACCA would have got more and more students, which they are getting, without any marketing efforts, without getting us jobs.
The so-called Exam Technique Thing, which ACCA itself teaches us, has made us all rote-learn. And I’m sure there must be many P2 Passed candidates, who cannot prepare Contract Accounts, they can’t do Hedge Accounting…ACCA is making us rote-learn ITSELF.
The problem is not the football players (ACCA EXAMINEES) but the problem is the COACH (ACCA).
June 16, 2012 at 3:09 pm #98735What would Alex lose if he had asked Q3 (a) straight as the benefits of Six Sigma for Thebe Co. and what he would have gained by twisting it in a rough style.

Unfortunitely for me, as I spent so long reading the scenarios for clues, thinking and straining for ideas, plus running out of time if I had any ideas to write, that I dont think, even if they lower the bar that I would pass anyway.

Am I the only one who made that mistake in Q1?? am I that stupid??
it’s my first attempt, I started ACCA last Dec (got 9 papers exempted)…I dont mind retaking P5 but I am afraid I wont have time to do it as I have local CPA exams to take and plus Nov-Dec is peak season at Big 4… wont have time to prepare for the exam…

An example – I did question 2 first, cause I thought it looked the easiest.
Q2 (b) Apply the performance prism model to Amal and suggest improvements to performance management
including possible methods of performance improvement and also relevant performance measures.
(14 marks)Ok, seems easy at first – 25 mins
There’s a full text of page, which is a 602 word document scenario, you went a bit over time in Q(a) due to reading & absorbing it. So your under time pressure now, you have 20 mins left(if your lucky).
Introduction & 5 aspects of the prism, not sure if im applying it correctly(article was only guidance I received, nothing in LSBF tutor videos) then suggest some PI for each – thats 6 marks & 15 minutes to do it.
Suggestions – turnaround time, fuel cost per kilo – 5 minutes
*under real time pressure now* Eh, wait, I mentioned those in part (a), and im not sure that thats the type of thing the question actually asked for, I should have mentioned some non-financial PI’s – ahwell im out of time, got to move onto the next question.
Most ill get from the 14 marks is 7/8 marks if my points were worthy of 1 mark each, which they probably wont be.
And now im feeling down & a bit deflated, its ruined my confidence already, and I still have 74% of the exam to go. Neeless to say, it went downhill from there.
That was a question I could at least get started on. On the weaker questions I probably only got 25% of the marks, if im lucky(Q4 (b) I couldnt approach properly, and may have got 1 “pity” mark). As such, unlike other exams, I didnt get to gain marks on the “easy” questions, to make up for the “hard” questions, so thats why Im sure I failed.
The frustration is, people ask, did you do your best ? And the answer is no, I didnt feel I got to show an aspect of my best. Thats why people who know the syllabus and have become expert on the theories & knowledge are really frustrated. They dont feel they can get it on paper as they are wasting time reading, re-reading & understanding lengthy scenarios. Then reading & re-reading requirements, then taking a guess at the question, doing it, and running out of time before they can get the points down.
And noone really does that in a real life job !! If anything, you would be given a week, more likely the guts of a month to analyse Q2.
