Trephena,Following your advice, I read through the forums and decided to do topic 20. I have been searching for an appropriate mentor- because this isn’t a very popular topic and so the mentor must be quite experienced in order to guide me. Do you think that The Learning Luminarium has a skilled mentor who can specifically help me with this topic?
@eyre, try Irwin at The Learning Luminarium. he was my mentor, he is awesome, and he has experience in mentoring T18 and T20!September 24, 2016 at 11:20 am #341552AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Hi Trephena, I failed on my first attempt in P32. It was quite a disheartening experience as despite charging an exorbidant fee, my mentor had been irresponsible and barely helpful for most part of the project. I made an enquiry with TLL and was surprised by their prompt response and for taking the time to assess the work I had previously submitted when my mentor had hardly gone through my report. All I could do was try my utmost. Unfortunately, I could not scrap by with an overall pass. I had failed on 2 points for the RR – Point 3: Evaluation of info, analysis and conclusion & Point 6: Referencing and info gathering. Having since reeled in from the shock of getting an F, I have been looking intently for help in Opentuition and found a silver lining in the forums. Your advice on financial analysis will be especially helpful to my resubmission. Thank you for sharing.

Good day,
I am preparing for my project submission in November and this forum has been extremely helpful but I have learnt that it is also common to fail which did not come as a surprise. What are the main reasons that usually cause students to fail OBU project.
September 26, 2016 at 2:57 pm #341766Referencing / information gathering and lack of proper evaluation and analysis are the usual reasons – and why I have produced articles on these on our homepage http://www.opentuition.com/obu
The Learning Luninarium has also produced an article on common cases of failure with a link on the homepage to their article
September 29, 2016 at 3:01 pm #342061Hi Trephena,
can you kindly reply to my post in the referencing postSeptember 30, 2016 at 10:09 am #342108@saberhagen – alas there are many mentors who do not understand the basics of producing a decent RAP – the reason why we will only endorse mentors who have an excellent track record (80% proven pass rate over at least the last 4 sessions)!
With submission fees for P33 set at GBP 225 and at GBP 250 for P34 it can be a false economy to go for a cheap mentor who is not experienced, however as you point out a high fee is no guarantee of quality. We (nor OBU for that matter) have any control over the fees charged but personal recommendations are always the best way to find a mentor. I am confident that if you read and apply our advice on here and use a mentor with a reasonable track record to guide you, you will ultimately be successful. Good luck! 🙂
September 30, 2016 at 12:18 pm #342120I have failed my T8 in P32 and need to do re-submission.
As mentioned in my research report, I must update my financial analysis for the latest published results. Does this mean that I need to change my research from “FY2012-FY2014” to “FY2013-FY2015”? This will affect my previous working a lot.
October 1, 2016 at 11:45 pm #342197@topone -yes you will need to update properly. A common complaint from markers is that students are lazy when it comes to resubmission and think all they have to do is update the graphs. No, if you will have to update your commentary too. You don’t have to drop 2012 completely but you must include the latest statements available at 31 August 2016.
October 13, 2016 at 11:38 am #343175Hi Trephena,
I would like to do TOPIC 2 (Evaluation of how introduction of new tech can assist an orgs in achieving its business objectives. Any advice?
I am planning to Evaluate the company I am working for (PTC Ltd – a subsidiary that is 100% owned by a conglomerate company: Press Corp Ltd in our Country. Press Corp is both Listed locally and on London Stock market.
October 13, 2016 at 5:55 pm #343211We have a forum topic on Topic 2 so suggest that you start with this.
It can currently be found on page 2 of our topic list or via the following link https://opentuition.com/topic/topic-2/
November 5, 2016 at 11:08 am #347567Hi,
I found some line in resubmission guide for period 33.“From period 33 onwards, anonymous marking is being introduced to the
programme therefore please identify yourself in any documentation using
ONLY YOUR ACCA NUMBER and NOT YOUR NAME.”Does this mean that I should remove my name from the RAP cover page and document name?
November 5, 2016 at 9:48 pm #347616That’s the general idea. If your name is on the files then you are not anonymous. I suppose if you leave your name on then you are considered to have waived your right to anonymity. Either way it shouldn’t really matter a lot!
January 5, 2017 at 12:46 am #365134Hi,
If someone do not pass the RAP in the first attempt, and then pass on the second attempt or 3rd, the (Hons) will be not show in the degree?
It will be only BSc Applied Accounting or Bsc (hons) Applied Accounting? Or it doesn’t matter?
Thanks
January 5, 2017 at 8:24 pm #365271If you do not pass the report at the first attempt then you cannot get higher than a C grade pass. The degree if awarded is always an honours degree but the classification of honours (first, 2.1, 2.2 or 3rd) depends on the average exam mark and the RAP grade. This is set out in the Information Pack so please consult this if you need further clarification.
March 30, 2017 at 3:17 am #379607Hi there, I have just started with Open Tuition and came across this study option with OBU. I am absolutely amazed by the quality of the help, advice, notes and resources and now to find that we can earn an honours degree as well…So glad to have found this. The answer to my current dilemma and the start of a new career, I hope. Really looking forward to getting stuck in. Thanks everyone!
March 30, 2017 at 8:42 am #379636If you are attempting to submit in May 2017 – Period 34 (not advised as work for a decent grade normally takes about 3 months part-time) then you need to read my urgent reminder on P34 submissions)
June 2, 2017 at 5:15 am #389614Hi,
I found this forum very helpful. i would like to re-submit my project this period, Period 35.
Have the industry sectors (ICB) been annonced for this period? if so, where can i find them?
Thanks much.June 2, 2017 at 11:10 pm #389812Normally for resubmission (but only resubmission), you can use the P33 and P34 company you used previously when the industry sectors change. They are due to be announced in the new Information Pack but when I looked on accaglobal earlier today it was still showing 2016/2017. So available very soon I would think!
June 24, 2017 at 10:59 am #393958Hi there, does anyone know what date the industry sectors are due to be announced?
June 27, 2017 at 12:55 am #394157Any day now when the new Info Pack is released. The titles of Topics 17 and 20 are also changing slightly.
June 27, 2017 at 7:50 am #394180Dear Trephena,
I am planning re submission for the 3rd time. In my second attempt i have only failed in information technology and passed in all the other areas. The reason why i failed in the IT skills is due to the fact that i did not show spreadsheet skills. I did topic 17 and i felt as it is more qualitative in nature there was no need for spreadsheet workings. Could you please let me what are the items that i need to submit this time for my project?
Thankyou. Looking fw to hearing from you.
June 27, 2017 at 7:56 am #394181Hi there. I am resubmitting for topic 17. I am not able to find period 35 info pack. Any idea how the change in topic will affect me in resubmission? And are are sure topic 17 would change?
June 27, 2017 at 7:57 pm #394215@ashwinacca – normally with T8 you can resubmit on your old topic when the sectors change, so I would expect the same principle to apply to T17. So in that sense you should not be affected by any changes.
I have suggested ways to use graphs and pie charts on the T17 forum topic e.g you could use bar charts for attendance at meetings, pie chart for gender of board, graphs for share info (EPS).
Rumour has it that students will have to choose a company that has been involved in a CG scandal -we will see in a few days whether the rumours are correct!
June 28, 2017 at 12:19 pm #394262Thanks for your response Trephena. So suppose the rumours are right then will i need to rework on the whole project? I have worked on my second submission very hard and took a lot of effort and time to complete the project. If spreadsheet is the only reason why i failed then i may resubmit the same project and add spreadsheet workings on the coming submission. Please advise if i can do this? Could you please let me know if its ok to submit these documents for the current submission (RAP, Appendix, Reference report, spreadsheet and resubmission statement). I will be resubmitting the RAP with no changes as this was already cleared by the marker.

7. Information Technology Fail
Reasons for fail and advice for improvement:
The assessment criteria requires evidence that information technology has been used to develop the RAP this includes the use of a Spreadsheet. The charts and graphs that have been presented in your RAP are pictures derived from a variety of sources and hence your RAP does not satisfy this criteria. Please see Page 69 of the OBU Information Pack which states that the submission should ‘show reasonable evidence of having accessed online information and having used a spreadsheet and other software in preparing the project.’ Also on Page 51of the Information pack it states that:- ‘Oxford Brookes University also needs evidence of the use of a spreadsheet used to process data. For example, this could be done by using a spreadsheet to prepare financial ratios / performance indicators’, You will need to further demonstrate your IT skills by using a spreadsheet to analyse the financial and other performance data generated by BP in their Annual Report, this should clearly show the data that is being used and the formulae used to manipulate the data.
Overall Graduate Skills Fail
Reasons for fail and advice for improvement:
This report contains some good analysis so it is unfortunate that you have missed the requirement to demonstrate the use of a Spreadsheet. Please note that the degree regulations only allow for a maximum of 3 submissions where a project has failed. Please see RAP Information Pack where Section 5 on Assessment states that ‘If you do not pass the RAP after a third submission, unfortunately you will no longer be eligible to complete the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting degree’ It is therefore very important that you carefully address the issues that have been raised in the feedback.
