What was the split on marks for Q1
Ie
1) Quadrants. How many marks?
2) Decision trees (14 marks)
3) Sources Finance How many marks ?
June 9, 2016 at 5:49 pm #321603I’ve choosen for d quadrant joint venture or licensing to\with conditioner supplier, since acquisition is not wellcomed by shareholders and lack of expertise on export in the past.
June 9, 2016 at 5:49 pm #321604If I not mistaken, the marks are as followed:
1) 18m
2) 14m
3) 14mProf marks-4m
June 9, 2016 at 5:50 pm #321606As SRO did not add disclaimer that it only evaluates FEATURED company, so people would have false trust on SRO that anything that pasted on the website is a good company
June 9, 2016 at 5:52 pm #321607Lengthy exam! I am not comfortable with such type of exams! i choose q 2 & 4. Regarding the result we will see it in the 18th of July!@@@@

I’m pretty sure Q2b was regarding only the ethical concerns for the company moving to foreign land … as that’s what I answered ?As SRO did not add disclaimer that it only evaluates FEATURED company, so people would have false trust on SRO that anything that pasted on the website is a good company
June 9, 2016 at 5:59 pm #321615Decision tree was asked for 14 marks. I was not prepared for that. I attempted q2 and q4. Q2a was okay. Q2 b was tough.it was asking ethical dilemma. I could not find one reason for ethical dilemma. Q4 a was easy. Porter diamond. Q4 b was horrible. I might fail.
June 9, 2016 at 6:16 pm #321636very time pressured. Q4a/ was diamond model supposed to be used for assessing tolina country conditions or Arland conditions?

Rotinas
June 9, 2016 at 6:28 pm #321651For decision tree, which option had the higher profit x or y?
June 9, 2016 at 6:35 pm #321659As far as I remember X generated higher profit, however if you deduct initial investment, it would appear that Y has higher return.
June 9, 2016 at 6:55 pm #321670Great…same for me

What were your profit figures?
June 9, 2016 at 7:27 pm #321692Five dollar i got the same results as you so I hope we both pass :))
June 9, 2016 at 7:35 pm #321701How did you do Q4 a diamond analysis
June 9, 2016 at 7:52 pm #321714You had to anayze the conditions in Rotania using the diamond. Eg in terms of rivalry there were not many competitive co in rotania. Porter warns that this lack of competition could lead to inefficiency. There was also a demand for good engineering in rotania so if the company expaned there it would benefit. There was also factor conditions in terms of the labour and the growing economy. The role of govt was also important as they were keen on ensuring companies in rotania are environmentally friendly. There wasn’t much benefit to be gained with regards to supporting industries.
June 9, 2016 at 8:13 pm #321737I came up with Option X as being the better choice of Investment as it gave a better return ..
1. first decision tree branch was -> 3 years – 0.2 probability of doing well – then the next 3 – high return only for both X and Y
(Option X would have been calculated as 0.2× 1x 6 years X 2 mil) ;
2. Second decision tree branch -> first 3 years – 0.8 chance of a low return which then further breaks down into 0.5 chances of high return or 0.5 chances of low return
(Option X would have been calculated as
0.8 X 0.5x 6 years x 2mil and also adding 0.8× 0.5× 6 years x 0.5 mil)By adding all this calculations and deducting the 6 mil cost of the investment I got 2.4 mil return. Not sure if it’s correct? What do u guys think?
Thank youJune 9, 2016 at 9:30 pm #321602AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Q1 (a) Ansofs matrix, evaluate directions.
As the example based on SWOT I tried assess options based on SWOT too. My conclusion came in accordance with the suggested strategy. But I added that if new foreign customer is reliable why not to sell? You can sell maintenance issue.
(b) Decision tree was OK. Don’t remember figures. Option X provided more net cash.
(c) Didn’t calculate gearing as couldn’t find info on borrowings. I thought that as the entity is private no loans in the past. Receivables turnover was around 20-22 days. Payables turnover as the above. Conclusion was loan + better management of payables + leasing.
Q2 (a) IT problems and suggestions. Not hard.
(b) As time was running out simply listed ethical issues and concluded that if the entity requires others to be ethical it itself must be ethical.
Q3 Skipped.
Q4 (a) Porters diamond. My key findings were that the government seems to be the sole customer and threats of substitues as the entity trained almost all local engineers.
(b) Possible strategic, organisational and operational problems of expension. Tried to give at least 2-3 comment for each. Forget to mention that the entity had no experience and finance issues.
Hope to get 50 marks…

June 9, 2016 at 11:04 pm #321780Hi,
Just checking, the diagram tree was just multiplying 0.8 x 0.5 to get 0.4 for both low low and low high, am i right? Such that it totals 1 (0.2 high high +0.4 +0.4). Or is this wrong.
Thanks
YazanJune 9, 2016 at 11:47 pm #321789It looks like this paper was hard going by the comments . I sat for P3 in March and Q1 i did not even understand it and surprisingly i passed. Dont think much and dont get stressed just wait for the results , u will be surprised that u have actually done well.
June 10, 2016 at 12:18 am #321792Thanks guys. I appreciate your answers. Decision tree is something I really don’t like, along with topics such as NPV, time series analysis, linear regression analysis etc.
I am surprised they still haven’t put in any question on integrated reporting or big data….weird
The examiner seems to be in love with questions like NPV , decision tree etc.
Also I was totally convinced that project management would come up again. To be fair I know a lot of the exam kit questions inside out and many of them are quite easy but these exam questions seem to be difficult. After all the hard work and studying I think I would have failed today, at least I know what areas I will focus on before I sit the exam for a 3rd time, in September.
Hope you guys pass. I honestly hate this paper, I would rather do something else, getting bored of this syllabus.
June 10, 2016 at 12:36 am #321793Thanks Andrew for response. If you wrote in the paper as articulately as you mentioned here ,then don’t worry InshaAllah you will pass and pray that I pass as well. (also my other fellow students as well.InshaAllah)
June 10, 2016 at 1:56 am #321798To be honest I though the question were pretty decent considering the level we r at. But I am absolutly gutted that I won’t go through this time. Just could not manage the time the way I should. I should answer all off then but ended just srape through 70 %. same happens with p1. Anyone who share my situation just don’t get upset you know that next time you WILL go through. Luckily you just need to pass once. And is there anyone can tell me that will I be able take p6 before p1,2,3? I just want to get one pass under my belt. ?
June 10, 2016 at 2:04 am #321801On the q4 I think the major concern of the transportation 7000 k distant from homeland. I just remember 7 pm in the evening that i should have mention this?..good luck
