Gosh . . . Is it me or paper really was weird? Did ok overall but my 2(b) and 3(b) lacked in content l8r more than half a page for each
June 10, 2013 at 4:17 pm #131369for question 1…i did not use cultural web for my answer..but i manage to write something based on what i know..i will still be correct right?as long as my answers are sensible and logical and fit to what the question ask.
June 10, 2013 at 4:18 pm #131370And question one was way too lengthy i only had 1 hour left to attempt the other 2 questions. I think for any one sitting this paper for the first time it was quite a difficult paper

Okay people just bare with me assessment of the exam.
First of all every answer can be correct if backed up with your own arguments and assumptions via the text so everyone will have different interpretations.
Q1(A)
Looked at this and was worried but actually the they gave 3 heading to work under. So i included stuff as cost in the end, not checking the spec, questioning the ethics of the doctors and also threatening them. Also smaller stuff like meeting missing personally and voting without all memebers there.
Q1(B)
Paragram and cultural web here altho took me a while to figure out could not fill all the boxes via the text but tried. Big one was the power in the organisation. Second part and went on about the organisation being wide flat professional beurcracy and comparing public vs private sector. Also threw in a big of mintzberg to Harry i think was the strategic apex.
Q1(c)
lenses was okayish, clearly he was strategy by design, expierence a little bit when he had to back down from his assumption on healthcare when the doctors challenged him. Also no ideas imo.
2(a)
5 forces
b
I was dumbfound but i focused in on scenarios. Then i looked at the text and realised in my mind that is. So the country was in a recession but what about if the economy turned around scenario 1 and then i looked at the fact supermarket had not yet looked at price and when i say yet i used that as scenario 2 what if they did. Also just threw in the brand awarness with questionairre. Basically I thought he was asking you to think outside the box and would the investment be worthwhile if certain market conditions changed….after all it is 5 forces. Rivalry and bargaining power of customers.
3A
Harman, kept legal in house and outsourced payroll since they were crap at it. However any answer will do once backed up from the text
3b
CRM was tricky here as normal industry rules dont apply. Threw in a little market segemnation to acquire and also regarding retain emails on offers etc. That was tricky as general things simply would not apply so hard to get much on both.
Hopefully it went well anyways…..time was good for me but the case study was vast and if you panicked there you lose a lot of time. I always leave case study to last so my brain is working from the 2 smaller questions.
Best of luck folks

for question 1…i did not use cultural web for my answer..but i manage to write something based on what i know..i will still be correct right?as long as my answers are sensible and logical and fit to what the question ask.dont worry as long as you’ve adressed the issues you’ll be fine . And what did you do about the configuration of culture in the same part?

Q1 had such technical information, quite lenghty and boring scenario… wayvard paragraphing led difficult to pick the points out… although the requirments were clear… spent alot of time picking up the points… performed quite ordinary in Q1 as i picked Qs 2 and 3 to start the paper with, hadnt had enough time to write much in 50 mins….
Q2 was five forces, found this was the easiest part of the paper and applied SFA Model and MCR in part (b) to evaluate the market attractivness…
Q3 was not difficult i got the legal expert to be outsourced as there wasnt such strategic importance seemed… I retained IT department in house as their importance was high with some improvments on…. payroll modification should be outsourced as the IT department would engage in the web site development… part (b) was CRM and made general points to aquire and retain the customers….
Overall it was not easy, really had plenty to write
June 10, 2013 at 4:28 pm #131376Was A Disaster.
Q1 Was Very Weird.
Got my mind into a lock.
Freaked out.
q2a was fine
b Didnt Know much Scenario planning could take any form anyways argued that what would happen if potential barriers were put up resulting the company to exit the market after entering Not allowing success
q3a inhouse legal stuff, use automation for payroll and erp for website Erp to be devollped internally cause internal staff appear to be capable.
3b.Crm just wrote random ways of attaining and retainning customers :/
q1 was a major turn off.
if it would have been swot or strategic position pass would be guranteed.
*Sigh*June 10, 2013 at 4:43 pm #131382Yikes reading this only makes me realise how bad I f**ked up the first question!! Oh well atleast 5 forces and Harmon and Lenses were (hopefully) easy marks so hope I wrote enough bs on the rest of it to get by! Is it just me or was anyone else relating Q1 to AVB’s spell at Chelsea? (The doctors being Frank Lampard and JT)
June 10, 2013 at 4:46 pm #131386My feeling is that the exam was not much about business analysis 🙁
Too many general questions.
The way the questions were asked got me writing too much about theory, perhaps not enough application to the scenarios.June 10, 2013 at 4:47 pm #131387AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Q1: a i) Project Mangement Process issue
ii) Importantant to understand organization culture and configurations
b) Strategy as plan, idea and experiensQ2: a) Porter 5 forces – oversea market
b) Analysis of managers viewsQ3: a) Harmon Matrix
b) How CRM help to acquire and maintain customersJune 10, 2013 at 5:17 pm #131391This was the first time I have sat P3 and I didn’t think the paper was horrible. The examiner even told you what model to use for some of the questions, something I wasn’t expecting. I stupidly got myself a little clouded by the doctor power structure which ended up dominating most of my Qu1 answer and I also struggled to get started (I just wanted to sound semi intelligent!). Pity, I had high hopes of passing this one first time and giving myself a bit of a much needed confidence boost.
The proof of the pudding will come in August.
Good luck everyone!!! :o)June 10, 2013 at 5:39 pm #131397AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Hi guys,
I have one question. I forgot to write conclusion in 2a question. I believe that I got the 5 forces alright and I am not sure how much points can examiner deduct for not reaching any conclusion? I listed some previous exam sessions and saw that the examiner did not reach conclusion in his answers.
If examiner does`t take more than 5 points for not reaching an conclusion, maybe I have some chance 🙂
Best regards and good luck everyone
June 10, 2013 at 5:49 pm #131398I think here the point is the relevant and suppoeted discussion, not really the conclusion.

what on earth did you good people write about Scenario Planning in the 1$ industry ?>??Not completely sure about the scenario thing, but what i wrote here was regarding possible market changes – increase in economy in a couple of years which would mean decrease in revenue for 1$ sales; possible increased pressure from the other participants in the market; change in lease/rent terms; i proposed using expected value for at least 3 different scenarios (worst case, normal case and best case) considering number of possible buyers…
I also wrote about the 6I’s in the 3rd question, but not particularly insisted on them. I said stuff like the system should be interactive, accept reviews, finally would help customers with their low deposit capacity through JIT inventory and maybe EOQ. To my understanding, the system would be for final customers (so not the chemical wholesalers but the chemical “buyers”).
I didn’t much appreciate the case study, i thought it was difficult to follow the initiation-conduct-termination of project line; the ideas were coming and i just wrote them down. Wrote alot in part b about culture (with referance to how culture was at the core of implementation (McKinsey’s 7S model – but didn’t insist). Then went on to culture web, but with significant emphasis on Power and Control.
All the best to you.

Where did Payroll, Legal advice and enhanced Web presence fall in Harmon’s process strategy matrix?
June 10, 2013 at 6:39 pm #131412So much for studying the entire syllabus.
Would’ve been a cakewalk if i practiced more project management questions, and i thought i did, just that this one was unique, so I wasted a lot of time.

For me question 1 problems and lesson learnt from project at initial, implemation and post stages 1b how understanding of cultural we and organ configuration (structure would have given ceo better opportunity to deal with problem and 1c stragetic lenses in term on midshire. Question 3 harmon matrix by co nesta to evaluate payroll , legal advise and enhancement of it for delivery tracking delivery 3b advantages of it to get and retain customer question 2a porter 5 forces and 2b used suitabilty, feasibilty and acceptability (not so sure about this one) overall exam was fairly easy
June 10, 2013 at 7:04 pm #131419Hello; just wanted to say that I thought it was quite a fair paper, really. The models that were required were quite easy – what I found hard was trying to relate them all to the scenarios. How do you know whether you are picking the right information… Anyway. For the CRM I used the customer identification, aquisition, retention and extension… Who knows what they wanted – it is always a surprise when one reads the official answers!! 🙂 Please may it be a pass!!!
June 10, 2013 at 7:04 pm #131420Q1 part (a)was abiout project management i build my answer around ….Leadership, team members, Communiation, resources required for the project….etc
part (b) culture web…..
Q2 Portor Five forces
Q3, Harmon strategy proces….
Ithink paper was fair enough for well prepared student …as i was not prepare enough for the paper …hoping for 50….June 10, 2013 at 7:13 pm #131423Well good luck to all those who wrote this paper. Unfourtunately i could not get to write it.
June 10, 2013 at 7:16 pm #131424anyone ever written a statement on exam day?

I dont Understand that many students misunderstood about the question… In LSBF notes it is clearly define the CRM AND E-CRM ..THE MODEL ADCOKS GUIDE TO CRM HAS TO BE PLACED AND 6 I ‘S IS WRONG selection ,as they were nothing like marketing scenario in the question… see LSBF NOTES PAGE NO 140…CRM AND E-CRM …

I am not sure about this one.
I finished on time but not sure if I wrote enough quality answers.
My main concern was the invigilation.
They read the rules out but over ran past the exam start time and then appeared not to have said we could start reading. Some people had started but the rest of us had not. Then at the end of the exam they didn’t give us the extra minute they missed at the beginning!
Also we have been prevented from having food available during the exam which is good but squeaky shoes and a constant flurry of people going to the toilet is very distracting. Aren’t they supposed to be sitting an exam too?June 10, 2013 at 8:31 pm #131443AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

I was surprised to see project management appear as Q1, would have expected a section B question on that topic. Did anyone consider suggestions such as using a PID to outline project details, have an experienced project manager or ensure adequate controls are in place to review how the project was going? It wa tricky enough to relate it back to the scenario at times. I went for q4 leadership styles said that Sully was dispalying the tells features initially. Job enrichment.. Focused on empowering the staff by allowing them to make decisions, motivate them to do a good job for their own satisfaction.
Then question 3, I said to outsource the legal advice as not the core business, same for payroll. Then focus on the web enhancement internally as this is where value is added.
In Q1, I didnt use cultural web, explained how the CEO came from industrial machine buaucracy but the hospital was more professionak beaucracy with wide flat structure, not sure was that the correct approach required!yes i did use PID and business case….
