Hi,
I am taking the P2 exam next week, and though I have done quite a lot of questions practice of group accounts (all past exam questions from BPP exam kit), I am still a little nervous about this.
Accounting standards like IFRS 9 are pretty difficult for me too, though I am trying to read as many answers as possible for them, but every single question is so different, which is demotivating me a bit.
What do you think I should do at this point to become a little more confident and motivated, because clearly some questions are demotivating me. I have read the notes and watched the lectures also, before practising questions. How should i revise in a better way or what should be an appropriate strategy at this point of time?September 2, 2016 at 9:06 pm #337155Hi,
The best way is to keep on working through the most recent past exam questions. Try not to get too put off by the model answers as they are far too complex and not what is expected from students in the real exam. Provided you are getting the basic points from each answer then you will gain marks in the real exam.
I firmly believe that one of the accounting standard questions will always be too difficult, so personally I’d attempt the easier one and the current issues question to give yourself the maximum chance of passing.
Don’t let the complexity of the questions get you down, if you keep on working as you have done then you will do well in the exam.
Thanks

Many thanks for your reply.
Do you think I should read past exam questions of years before 2009 as they are given in my exam kit but are somewhat complicated.
Also i haven’t prepared a current issue question till now because I was targeting to avoid that after reading the OT exam tips that it should be avoided as very few marks can be picked up on discussion question. So I have just not done anything relating to that.
Also could you suggest where I should study for the ethics question as i don’t have a study text? Thanks in advance!
September 2, 2016 at 9:51 pm #337161Hi,
Ethics can be studied by looking at the past exam questions as they are all very similar and should therefore be straightforward in the exam.
I wouldn’t stress about anything pre-2009 but it doesn’t do any harm if you do some of the groups questions.
Feel free to avoid the current issues question but I’ve always felt that it is much easier to score marks here than in the more challenging accounting standards question. Given the short space of time between now and the exam it might not be worth you trying to attempt the current issues question if you’ve not done anything on it so far.
Thanks
September 2, 2016 at 10:27 pm #337166Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, for group accounts, I have tried to do almost all the questions, but for accounting standards, I am just focusing on 2010 onwards questions.
Okay, I will read the ethics questions from the revision kit.
Thank again for the guidance!! - AuthorPosts
