And never give up. π
December 8, 2020 at 12:02 pm #598396Hi guys I started my ACCA journey 8 years ago in 2012 and still have 4 papers to complete.
Hopefully after this session it will be only 3 papers left π
I have a high pressure job, a 2and a half year old (I’m the mother) and I will be 40 years old next year.
I have left my country 15 years ago with only a suitcase, and did even house cleaning at some point.
I will not give up until I finish my papers and complete my transformation to an Accounting professional.
I hope my story will help others as well
Good luck to all!December 13, 2020 at 12:50 pm #599814Congratulations, have you managed to get a job within accounting? Is it worth it as Im struggling to find the motivation as failed exam recently
December 17, 2020 at 5:25 pm #600202Congrats. So what improvements in your career are you looking forward to the most now?
Just finishing is not nearly enough motivation for me right now.December 18, 2020 at 2:13 pm #600246These are all great stories. Is their a limit to do these exams?? I heard 10 Years but could be wrong

Thereβs only a limit on Strategic Professional exams and it is 7 years.
December 18, 2020 at 3:16 pm #600252I have done the first 3 foundations and I have also done Corporate Law so I guess I dont need to worry anytime soon so! Cheers Beth
December 27, 2020 at 12:51 pm #600963Hi,
I really appreciate when other people share their stories, especially when they have twists and turns in them. It helps me to see that life is never a straight line from A to B, most of us go zig zag all.the.time. πI think you are all really brave and courageous, and should be applauded for not giving up on your dreams and hopes of qualifying. π
I burnt out from my first career at 33 due to overworking and losing people close to me. I took time off, decided to try my hand at something else. I started with AAT and did really well, especially since I was working part-time. I had thought of starting ACCA, but then the world seemed to turn upside down again. I had to leave my home, I lost my employed job twice due to Brexit. My partner and I decided to move to another country. It took time for me to recuperate enough to want to look at ever studying again. But I hated my freelance job so in the beginning of 2019 I started ACCA, hoping to find a place to work that was relevant to my studies. I gave it a year, but at the end of that year I was no closer to finding a job within accountancy. While I tried to keep my motivation up, I just could not. I had not managed to sit an exam, although I booked at least two. I sent hundreds of applications, was in contact with 13 different recruitment firms, but alas, I had had very few, if any, responses. So I gave up.
After spending a year (2020, of all other….) soul-searching etc, I decided that I want to do it. So that’s what I am doing, I have been studying for only a couple of weeks now. But this time I am doing it differently. I know I probably won’t get a job without moving again (we live quite rural and I’m an outsider in this area), but that’s okay. My achievement list no longer starts at the end of my goal list.
My point, even though it is long-winded, is to never ever give up on your dreams and hopes and wishes and wants. But be realistic and manage your expectations, and do give the finger to the expectations of others because it is your life. Take some time to get to know yourself and why you want to do something. Make sure you do things because YOU want to, not someone else. If it is something you want to do, then go and do it. Regardless of what others think.
Really, thanks again for sharing. π
KimDecember 31, 2020 at 1:36 pm #601221I started my ACCA journey in 2014. I am in my late 40’s. I failed F5 ,5 times. Passed on my 6th attempt
So dont give up. I am still continuing even though I fail also. I get up, dust myself off and restart again. So for those of you who think they are too old you are never too old.January 22, 2021 at 2:08 pm #607551I registered as an ACCA student in May 2005, and struggled to pass exams at times, took time out for various reasons and never thought Iβd qualify.
2 1/2 years ago I moved jobs to be closer to home, and got fresh motivation to pass my ACCA as I wanted to do it for my career.
Since then I have passed 4 exams straight, sitting every 6 months (skipping June 2020 due to COVD) and am now an ACCA affiliate.
It just shows what renewed enthusiasm and focus can do. Iβve self studied at home and have a (current) 4 year old here too.
Never give up on something you want, if you are finding it tough then it will definitely be worth it in the end.
March 19, 2021 at 6:47 pm #614799Hi guys, I am now 3 papers away to being an affiliate, I am left with SBR AAA and ATX.
I also got the BSc from OBU last year (ACCA route) so my struggle to pass the first 9 exams was not in vain.Right now I am employed in a finance/accounting position. I’ll be 40 this year as I mentioned in my previous post.
Hopefully by the end of they year i’ll pass at least one more exam.
@Kim, being in a semi-rural region with very few jobs is tough as hell, I’ve been trough that in my 20’s in Italy and it was extremely hard emotionally. As soon as I changed country things started moving for me and I found a desk job almost immediately, not the perfect one but in time I managed to move to finance where I am now. At the moment I am at assistant level although I am expert in my field (I enjoy having less headache and more time with my family as I have a small child) but I will probably move up a level or two when my baby (now 3yrs old) will be just a bit more independent and I will be ACCA affiliate/hopefully qualified. My point is believe in yourself, be prepared, the opportunity will always come and if you are prepared you will not miss it.
Good luck to everyone!
March 21, 2021 at 8:18 pm #614930Hi. Just wanted to give you a bit of motivation and hope. Iβve started ACCA when my daughter was 9 months old. It was hard and crazy 3 years since then (I also did the Oxford Brookes degree and had another child in the meantime).
Iβm just awaiting results for my last exam.
Donβt lose your hope, itβs really hard, but possible.
Massive thank you to Open Tuition!!
Good luck! You can do it! XApril 26, 2021 at 4:27 pm #618891This is really good and thank you for sharing your experience.
April 26, 2021 at 5:25 pm #618895@deftoneseire07 – ACCA regularly changes time limits – this is the latest for completing the final five exams: https://www.accaglobal.com/vn/en/student/getting-started/rules-and-regulations-for-students/time-limits.html
Notwithstanding the rules, students can apply for extensions e.g. for maternity/paternity, extended sick leave, etc.

May 29, 2021 at 1:05 pm #622168Can I just say – THANK YOU ALL!
I started my journey in 2015 and I am 4 exams away from completion, and lets say its been a heck of a bumpy ride!
Just recently I’ve felt so alone thinking what am I doing, I clearly can’t do this I may as well just give up and the typical what’s the point.
I have booked in for my first professional paper in June and have got myself into a little pickle over it all and was contemplating not bothering to turn up. After finding this thread I now feel less alone in this situation and more motivated to get up dust myself off and try again.
Thanks again π
July 20, 2021 at 3:34 pm #628925Agree, 45 days is very unrealistic. I feel 3 months is good if you study continously daily.
August 27, 2021 at 8:06 pm #633170focus on one at a time….give it your all…
August 31, 2021 at 12:24 pm #633648Congrats on your road Thirty, i like your grounded point of view. Wish you success

Ossyref, as i understood you took 2 exams/year, was it very difficult to take 1 exam /3 months, 4/year?

My journey is finally coming to an end!January 24, 2022 at 2:09 pm #647369@thirty – CONGRATULATIONS on having achieved so much already – you’re journey will be an inspiration to many!
