If the figures after the decimal point are less than 0.5 then you round down, whereas if the figures after the decimal point are greater than 0.5 then you round up.

So 592307 is 592.307 when expressed in thousands. 0.307 is less than 0.5 and so to the nearest thousand it is 592.

Similarly, 245450 is 245.450 when expressed in thousands. 0.450 is less than 0.5 and so to the nearest thousand it is 245.

Have the figure been 245640, then when expressed in thousands it is 245.640. 0.640 is great than 0.5, so to the nearest thousand it is 246.

In section C questions, you can get the spreadsheet to automatically show things to the nearest thousand and so it then does it automatically. Make sure you practice using the spreadsheet before sitting the exam. There are plenty of resources for this on the ACCA website and they are linked to from our free lecture notes.
