    Hello Sir
    Why is the value of the estate not frozen to 250000 why do they have to subtract the value when the PET was made (250000) from the value at death (300000) when calculating the IHT saving

    Firstly it is most important that you use the most recent technical articles available on the ACCA website – those for FA 2020 for exams through to March 2022 where the misleading statement in the answer regarding the PET has been removed.
    In respect of your query – although the question and answer in the technical article are not clearly defined the calculation performed simply shows the IHT saved by giving in lifetime – 250,000 as a PET instead of 300,000 in the death estate
