Hello Sir,
Hope you are doing well.
I had given AFM attempt in September 2019 unfortunately I failed. I scored 32 marks. I am planning for a retake in December and AFM is the only paper left for me to complete ACCA examination. It would be really helpful if you could give me some tips on how to go about it as I’m stuck and I do not understand where to start from. Should I do all the lecture first or do I need to go through the study text all over again. Please do provide me with your guidance.
Many thanks.

I am sorry that you were not successful this time.
I don’t know how you studied for the exam last time, but here are a few suggestions.
1. Watch all of my free lectures. They should mostly be revision for you (assuming you had already worked through a Study Text). However as soon as you come to something that you are not clear about, then (depending on what it is) do one or all of the following:
– watch the relevant Paper FM (was F9) lectures. I don’t know whether you took Paper FM or were exempt, but much of AFM is revision of FM.
– look up the relevant topic in your Study Text
– ask in this forum and I will try and help.2. I assume that you have a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA Approved Publishers (BPP or Kaplan). If not then it is essential that you buy one!
Attempt every question in the Revision Kit – and I do mean attempt. Do not just audit the answers – the only way to really learn is to try questions yourself first and then learn from your mistakes when you check with the answer.
Again, if anything is not clear when you check the answers then ask in this forum and I will explain.3. In the exam itself, several things:
– make sure you allocate your time. It is better to have only part-finished every question than to have left out one question completely.
– make sure you get the easy ‘professional marks’ for the report required in question 1.
– make sure your workings are clear for the marker to follow – the marks are for the approach rather than for the final answer.
– make sure for question 1 that you keep your workings separate from the report (head up pages for ‘report’ and for ‘appendix’.
– always state your assumptions. It is rare that there is just one correct answer in Paper AFM because it depends so much on the assumptions you make. State your assumptions to make sure you get the marks.
– always do something, however little, for every part of each question. If there is a written part then even if you think you know nothing about what is asked then at least write sometime. Just one line takes no time at all but might get 1 mark 🙂 - AuthorPosts
