Am feeling low, depressed and infact disappointed! enrolled in 2010 but only 2 papers cleared F5 and F6 . Have never missed any sitting! please advise! failed F9 the 4th time and f7 the 3rd time. OMGThis is a very blunt answer and its probably going to sound cruel but I’m trying to straightforward and helpful. Please don’t interpret it otherwise. I’ve comfortably passed F5 , F9 and P3 in the last sitting like this so it may suit you but this is my opinion on your predicament and how I cope with studying. I’m just trying to help where some people may sugar coat it and say it will be fine.
You need to be very honest with yourself. Failing this many times means something needs to change in your study methods in a very significant way. You’ve continued to fail because you have made changes that are too small. Otherwise you will be unable to pass the professional level papers, once you get there.
I am fortunate enough to be sponsored and able to go to classroom lectures. It really helps me and makes me focus earlier on. I find the exams are getting easier as I go along because I now know how to form an answer and pinpoint what the examiner is looking for (tutors have helped with that, I’m not going to pretend I’m a genius), the subject matter does get harder though but easier to pass. Maybe a few classroom classes will help you if you’re not doing them already.
If you can’t pass two exams together, perhaps devote your time to just one otherwise you’re not making any progress. Get into a rhythm of passing one exam and then add a second once you are comfortably passing the first. If you don’t start passing them again you may run out of time and not become qualified. People on here say they study all the time whereas I can’t do that. I need some fun or I get stuck in a rut and don’t take anything in. Perhaps doing less subjects and having more time will help you too.
Completely honestly, this may be useless advice but I hope my frankness has helped and apologies if has cause any offence. Good luck in the next exam.
August 10, 2013 at 4:33 am #137293Hey guys, I have failed this paper, I would like to ask, which book will you recommend? BPP or Kaplan
August 10, 2013 at 6:31 am #137304Finally I’ve been released from writing F9 again. My 50 marks is worth 100% to me
August 10, 2013 at 11:10 am #137363Grrr, failed for 4th time! My marks have got lower every time. First time I only missed by 2 marks because I forgot to go back and answer skipped part of 1 question, this time I got 28%!
I don’t get why everyone found this an OK paper, to me it was a complete stinker! in the past it was the maths bits I fell down on, but I made sure I was fully prepared for them this time. But I had no idea at all about any part of Q4 and all the written answers seemed totally obscure. And as for the tax in Q1…..! this is a finance paper not a tax paper so HTF should I know???? It is ages since I did the tax paper & the syllabus has changed since then.
I think my problem is that I am not on the examiner’s wavelength. Every time I read the examiners’ comments from the previous exam I wonder how on earth he could have expected me to realise that he wanted “that” answer from “that” question, to me they are often a complete non-sequitur, like he expects me to be psychic or something.
I have Aspergers so maybe it is to do with that? However I have never had this kind of problem in any of the other papers. Until F9 I had always had first-time passes (apart from P2 which I took a couple of years ago as a complete gamble to try & get it in before the syllabus changed and knew I wouldn’t pass).
Any tips on getting into the examiner’s head please?

Hey guys, I have failed this paper, I would like to ask, which book will you recommend? BPP or Kaplanhi, I studied F9 with kaplan, I went for tuition and revision, f9 is the first paper I have sat after F1, F2 and f3. My tutor was awesome and I passed first time with 60%. I think that if you have studied any a level maths it really helps with memorising, rearranging and using the equations. But definitely recommend kaplan.
