    Hey there,

    (1) The recording under the title : ” The non controlling interest in the goodwill of the subsidiary ” does not cover e.g 7 of pg 41 but rather stops abruptly when Mr. Mike is talking about the diff ways the examiner can put a full value method question, which is at the top of pg 41 before eg.7 .

Then the lecture :” Other reserves, mid-year acquisitions” starts with e.g 8 in which Mr. Mike refers to the missing e.g 7.

Is it possible to have the e.g 7 lecture plz?

    (2) In e.g 8 of pg 42, the question goes like : ” Ivona bought 60% of the shares of Guido…”
However in the lecture, group structure shows that Guido is the parent n the share cap which is always only ever that of the parent entity is shown as Guido’s rather than Ivona’s.

Could u clear this point plz?

    Thank you.

That sounds like an error on my part. However, by this stage you should be comfortable in adapting the question to fit the answer! Have I consistently treated Guido as the parent? or is it only in that one example?

It’s more important that you are aware of the different ways in which Steve Scott can give you the information for you to be able to calculate the nci in the subsidiary

Since we don’t get to see the lecture for e.g 7, i don’t know if it was treated like e.g 8 & 9 but i’d assume so coz u do refer back to it in e.g 8.

In the answer to e.g 8, there is no mention of the value of nci investment of $55,000 mentioned in e.g 7. Does it mean that if we’re told that ” Guido’s shares were worth $1.65 immediately before the acquisition by Ivona” , the value of nci investment given in eg.7 does not stand anymore or do we have to ignore nci investment of $55,000 given in eg.7 for the sake of e.g 8?

    Thank you.

Yes, that’s what it means. The Ivona and Guido series of three ( followed by the impairment of those three goodwill figures in the following example ) are examples of the different ways in which Steve Scott could give you the information to calculate the nci.

I believe that, at the beginning of this section of the course notes, it says something like “recalculate the goodwill figure in Ivona and Guido but this time the sentence “goodwill is on a proportional basis” is replaced by “the nci investment is valued at $55,000”

But you can check out the course notes to see what they say and that should axplain away your queries

So long as you are comfortable with the three ways of calculating goodwill under the full, fair method and in using the proportional method, that’s fine.
